System-Level Impingement Cooling with Cryogens
Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 2020System-level impingement cooling with cryogens has potential thermal applications in size-constrained, weight-constrained, and power-constrained or low-atmosphere environments by utilizing a phase change for enhanced heat transfer at cryogenic temperatures. In this work, an experiment capable of measuring the heat and mass flow of liquid nitrogen jets

Impingement Cooling of Electronics
Journal of Heat Transfer, 1992Experiments were conducted to determine the performance of a system of low-velocity air jets used to cool a simulated electronics package. The test model consisted of a uniform array of rectangular elements mounted to a circuit board. Each element was cooled by a cluster of four jets, and the spent fluid was vented at one end of the channel formed ...

Microscale Liquid Impingement Cooling
Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS), 2001Abstract Impingement cooling is an attractive method for individual IC cooling because of the uniformity and high values of the expected heat transfer coefficient. This paper presents spatially-averaged temperature measurements for DI water impingement from single micro jets with diameters smaller than 50 μm.

Multiple jet impingement cooling
Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 1993Experiments were performed to study the effect of nozzle rotation, flow rate, degrees of subcooling, number of jets, and velocity on the heat flux in jet impingement cooling using deionized distilled water. The heat flux is a strong function of the flow rate and degree of subcooling, attaining a maximum value of the order of 600 W/cm at the highest ...

Mist/Steam Cooling by a Row of Impinging Jets
Volume 3: Heat Transfer; Electric Power; Industrial and Cogeneration, 2001Closed loop steam has been chosen for cooling airfoils in heavy frame Advanced Turbine Systems (ATS) to improve efficiency. Enhanced cooling by the use of mist is considered to have potential to augment cooling by internal steam alone. Water droplets generally less than 10μm are added to 1.3 bar steam and injected through a row of four discrete round ...

Cooling performance of an impingement cooling device combined with pins
Journal of Thermal Science, 2005Experimental study and one dimensional model analysis were conducted to investigate cooling performance of an integrated impingement and pin fin cooling device. A typical configuration specimen was made and tested in a large scale low speed closed-looped wind tunnel.

Impinging jet cooling on concave surfaces
AIChE Journal, 2004AbstractThe numerical modeling of jet impingement cooling onto a semicircular concave surface is reported. The performance of two‐equation turbulence models (such as the k–ε model) is evaluated vs. the Reynolds stress model proposed. The Reynolds‐averaged momentum and energy equations are solved together with equations for the turbulence models, using ...

Submerged liquid jet impingement cooling
2011 IEEE 13th Electronics Packaging Technology Conference, 2011In this paper, submerged liquid jet array impingement is proposed as a solution for the thermal management of the high performance electronics. Experiments were done using a submerged jet array of 285 nozzles of 0.5 mm diameter spaced 5.5 mm apart, machined on a 5 mm thick nozzle plate, with an impingement height of 3 mm.

Spray Cooling Droplet Impingement Model
10th AIAA/ASME Joint Thermophysics and Heat Transfer Conference, 2010Spray Cooling is one of the leading techniques proposed for rejection of high heat flux levels necessary in future aircraft and spacecraft electronics and weapons packages. Experimental research and computational CFD require significant amounts of time to setup and execute to completion.
