Air Jet Impingement Cooling for Hot-Stamping Dies

open access: yesThe International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2022
Abstract The strength of panel sheets can be increased by 2-3 times after hot stamping, and for high quality of hot stamped sheets, uniform cooling rate on the die face to quench the panel is needed. However, it is difficult for cooling water channels, commonly used for hot stamping dies, to dissipate heat evenly.

Pre‐Curved Everting Robots With Embedded Steering Intelligence Fabricated by CO2 Laser Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Design and experimental demonstration of a laser welded growing robot for anatomically guided navigation. The robot follows an aortic arch phantom entering the branchiocephalic branch through steering by design. The figure shows the physical phantom setup, CAD defined weld geometry and full robot eversion.

Comparative Performance Analysis of Various Flat Plate Solar Collectors Incorporating Spiral and Square Arrangement of Circular Type Riser Tube

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Three flat‐plate collectors with spiral and square coiled riser tubes were tested and it was found that the spiral type provides the best results with a thermal efficiency of 66.98% for a mass flow rate of 0.4 kg/min. Riser tube geometry is a key factor in optimizing flat‐plate collector output.

Study on the effect of Weber Number to heat transfer of multiple droplets on hot stainless steel surface

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Multiple droplets are drops of water that continuously dropped onto a surface. Spray cooling is an application of the use of droplet on a cooling system. Spray cooling is usually used in a cooling system of electronic devices, and material quenching.

Experimental Study of Impingement Effusion-Cooled Double-Wall Combustor Liners: Thermal Analysis

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
A new experimental study is presented for a combustor with a double-wall cooling design. The inner wall at the hot gas side features effusion cooling with 7-7-7 laidback fan-shaped holes, and the outer wall at the cold side features an impingement hole ...

Flammability of Facades Across Scales and International Standards

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Facade fires are a rare but destructive hazard that can lead to the rapid spread of fire between the floors and fire compartments of a building. Today, there are at least 21 different national standards for facade fire tests in use around the world, which seek to categorize facades based on their flammability.

Impingement cooling in a rib‐roughened channel with cross‐flow [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Numerical Methods for Heat & Fluid Flow, 2001
Summary: A numerical investigation to determine the velocity and heat transfer characteristics of multiple impinging slot jets in rib-roughened channels in the presence of cross-flow has been carried out. Fluid flow is modeled using an explicit algebraic stress model. A simple eddy diffusivity and a generalized gradient diffusion hypothesis are applied

A Detailed Review of Colburn and Friction Factors for Various Types of Fins Used in Compact Plate‐Fin Heat Exchangers

open access: yesHeat Transfer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Compact plate‐fin heat exchangers (PFHEs) are commonly utilized in diverse industries, including aerospace, automotive, processing, and space. Various fin configurations, such as Plain fins, Wavy fins, Lance and Offset fins (OSFs), Perforated fins, louvered fins, and pin fins, are employed in compact heat exchangers (CHEs).
