The influence of non-equilibrium dissociation on the flow produced by shock impingement on a blunt body [PDF]
We describe an investigation of the effects of non-equilibrium thermochemistry on the interaction between a weak oblique shock and the strong bow shock formed by a blunt body in hypersonic flow.

In this fluid dynamics video, Ray-tracing data visualization technique was used to obtain realistic and detailed flow motions during impinging of two liquid jets. Different patterns of sheet and rim configurations were presented to shed light into the underlying physics, including liquid chain, closed rim, open rim, unstable rim and flapping sheet.

The presented study focuses on the fracture behaviour of carbon‐bonded magnesia MgO–C refractories, where environmentally friendly fructose, collagen and lignin serve as temporary binding agents. The partial substitution of the source material with recycled MgO–C reduces the fracture resistance, which can be counteracted by the additional introduction ...

Heat and flow pattern of a vertical free jet impinging on a hot disk were numerically investigated. A cylinder with various thicknesses and materials exposed simultaneously to uniform heat flux on one side and a free impinging jet on the other side is ...

Hybrid RANS/LES of plane impinging jets with k-omega based models [PDF]
Plane impinging jets with nozzle-plate distances H/B=10 at Re=13500 and H/B=9.2 at Re=20000 are simulated with k-omega based hybrid RANS/LES models. Three ways of substitution of the turbulent length scale by the local grid size in the LES mode of the ...

A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Deformation of a liquid film by an impinging gas jet: Modelling and experiments [PDF]
© 2019, Avestia Publishing. We consider liquid in a cylindrical beaker and study the deformation of its surface under the influence of an impinging gas jet.

A Non‐Reciprocal Architected Porous Medium
ABSTRACT In several fluid flow, energy‐dumping, and energy‐harvesting applications, a dominant flow direction or dominant resistance direction is desirable. In this study, we propose a simple modular geometry that doubles flow resistance in one direction relative to the opposite direction, while maintaining laminar viscous flow.

A numerical simulation of high-Reynolds-number opposed impinging wall water jets in a limited field
In the impinging region of opposing jets, strong mixing and significant energy dissipation are observed, but the mixing parameters invariably change with the opposed impinging strength (OIS). In this paper, the ratio of the turbulent kinetic energy (TKE)
