Impinging Jet Resonant Modes at Mach 1.5 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
High speed impinging jets have been the focus of several studies owing to their practical application and resonance dominated flow-field. The current study focuses on the identification and visualization of the resonant modes at certain critical ...

Bubbly Jet Impingement in Different Liquids

open access: yesMicrogravity Science and Technology, 2010
An experimental setup for the study of bubbly jets collision in microgravity has been designed. On ground preliminary results are presented in order to be compared with those obtained in a near future in low gravity conditions. The opposed-jet configuration is used with the objective to force the collision of two jets, with an impact angle between them

New Directions in Focused Ion Beam Induced Deposition for the Nanoprinting of Functional 3D Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Here, it is shown that focused ion beam induced deposition (FIBID) using helium and neon ions enables advanced high‐resolution 3D nanoprinting achieving precise multimaterial architectures and engineered internal voids. Thus, FIBID with finely focused noble gas ion species is presented as a unique platform for designing functional nanomaterials for ...

Experimental Investigation on Acoustic Wave Generation due to Supersonic Hot Jet Impingement on an Inclined Flat Plate

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2019
In the present paper, noise generation due to supersonic hot jet impingement (M=1.4 and Tt=950 K) to an inclined flat plate is experimentally investigated. In general, four types of acoustic waves are defined for jet impingement: acoustic waves generated

Numerical Simulations of HH 555

open access: yes, 2007
We present 3D gasdynamic simulations of the Herbig Haro object HH 555. HH 555 is a bipolar jet emerging from the tip of an elephant trunk entering the Pelican Nebula from the adjacent molecular cloud.

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.
