Challenges and enablers in fluidization technology

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Gas–solid fluidized beds provide excellent heat and mass transfer for high‐throughput operations from coating to catalytic conversion and underpin emerging low‐carbon technologies. Yet industrial reliability, scale‐up, and control lag scientific understanding, particularly as finer, stickier, and more variable feedstocks increasingly challenge

Erosion due to impingement of cavitating jet.

open access: yesHydraulics & Pneumatics, 1987
Cavitation erosion produced by impingent of cavitating jet was experimentally studied with specimens of aluminum alloy in high water base fluid of chemical solution type and tap water. Furthermore, the behavior of impinging cavity clouds was observed through instantaneous photographs.

Pancake Lenses through Curved Lamination for Compact Virtual Reality

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents an ultrathin VR optical system based on a 1.35 in. microdisplay, leveraging curved lamination technology. Compared to mainstream solutions, the proposed design demonstrates superior compactness (volume compression by 12%) and enhanced optical performance.

Pre‐Curved Everting Robots With Embedded Steering Intelligence Fabricated by CO2 Laser Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Design and experimental demonstration of a laser welded growing robot for anatomically guided navigation. The robot follows an aortic arch phantom entering the branchiocephalic branch through steering by design. The figure shows the physical phantom setup, CAD defined weld geometry and full robot eversion.

Behavior of shock waves formed in supersonic jet impinging on flat plate

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2014
This paper focuses on the behavior of shock waves formed in an underexpanded impinging jet. The jet becomes underexpanded when the pressure ratio exceeds the critical value across the convergent nozzle discharging it.

Measurements of a single pulse impinging jet. A CFD reference

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2014
This paper reports three sets of measurements of a single pulse impinging jet. The purpose is to serve as a reference for CFD validation. A gas injector generates a single pulse jet at Re ~90000.

Heat transfer in a confined impinging jet with swirling velocity component

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
Heat transfer measurements based on an infrared experimental method (TOIRT) are compared with CFD simulations of a confined impinging jet with tangential velocity component.

Developmental differences in cortical bone structure in chimpanzee and human femora reflect early locomotor independence in humans

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The cortical bone structure of long bone diaphyses changes throughout growth via skeletal modeling and has important implications for bone strength and structural integrity. Ontogenetic trends in diaphyseal structure have been identified in both chimpanzees and humans but it is not yet clear how these trends compare given notable differences ...

Excellent Outcomes and High Rates of Return to Duty but a 10% Chance of Tear Progression Are Seen Following Arthroscopic Debridement Alongside Adjunctive Procedures for Articular‐Sided, Partial‐Thickness Supraspinatus Tears (Ellman Grade I) in Active‐Duty Service Members Younger Than 50 Years

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To evaluate clinical outcomes and return‐to‐duty rates in active‐duty service members younger than 50 years after arthroscopic debridement of Ellman grade I, articular‐sided partial‐thickness rotator cuff tears (PT‐RCTs) of the supraspinatus.

Most Upper Extremity Injuries in Elite Summer League Baseball Players Occur From Overuse, Affect the Shoulder, and Result in Missed Playing Time

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To characterize the epidemiology of upper extremity injuries among elite college baseball players in 1 league over 5 seasons. Methods Deidentified arm injury reports were recorded from the 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023 Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) seasons.
