Partially constrained impinging jets [PDF]

open access: yesQuarterly of Applied Mathematics, 1964
Abstract : Qualitative explanations of the motion of shaped charge liners have been based on impact of two plane jets in which the moving fluid is surrounded by four stagnant regions, all at the same pressure. Actually, the motion is initiated by the difference between the high pressure in the detonation products on one side of the liner and ...

Designing Scalable Mechano‐Virucidal Nanostructured Acrylic Surfaces for Enhanced Viral Inactivation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Can a surface be designed to physically break viruses? This study explores how nanoscale geometry—specifically the spacing of tiny pillars—can determine whether viruses remain intact or rupture. Using flexible acrylic and a scalable fabrication process, the authors develop nanopillared, transparent surfaces that show strong antiviral activity without ...

Could the Coand\u{a} effect be called the Young effect? The understanding of fluid dynamics of a legendary polymath

open access: yes, 2011
A paper of Thomas Young (1773-1829) on the behavior of streams of air makes a good starting point for discussing the not always fair, sometimes serendipitous, association of a physical phenomenon with its discoverer.

Parametric Optimization of PEDOT:PSS Aerosol Jet Printing for Enhanced Line Morphology in Flexible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This work maps and optimizes aerosol‐jet printing of PEDOT:PSS on flexible polyimide. By co‐tuning carrier and sheath gas flows, print speed, and solvent composition with surface activation, continuous, uniform microlines with sharp edges and minimal overspray are achieved.

Numerical investigation of V/STOL jet induced interactions [PDF]

open access: yes
Direct numerical simulation using the full three dimensional, time dependent Navier-Stokes equations is used to investigate V/STOL jet induced interactions. The objective of this numerical simulation is to compute accurately the details of the flow field

Advancing Energy Materials by In Situ Atomic Scale Methods

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 15, Issue 11, March 18, 2025.
Progress in in situ atomic scale methods leads to an improved understanding of new and advanced energy materials, where a local understanding of complex, inhomogeneous systems or interfaces down to the atomic scale and quantum level is required. Topics from photovoltaics, dissipation losses, phase transitions, and chemical energy conversion are ...
