Optimization of planar high-dose-rate implants
International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1999Brachytherapy has long been used to deliver localized radiation to the breast and other cancer sites. For interstitial implants, proper source positioning is critical in obtaining satisfactory dose distributions. The present work examines techniques for optimizing source guide placement in high-dose-rate (HDR) biplanar implants, and examines the ...

Impact of implant length and diameter on survival rates
Clinical Oral Implants Research, 2006AbstractIntroduction: Despite the high success rates of endosseous oral implants, restrictions have been advocated to their placement with regard to the bone available in height and volume. The use of short or nonstandard‐diameter implants could be one way to overcome this limitation.Material and methods: In order to explore the relationship between ...

Low rate stochastic strategy for cochlear implants
Neurocomputing, 2009In this article, a variant on low rate stochastic stimulation is presented. This variant shows more physiological characteristics, which are able to help preserving the cochlea due to low rate and low level stimulation. The speech processor here presented is provided with characteristics more similar to the normal peripheral auditory system.

Extended embryo culture to increase implantation rate
Reproductive BioMedicine Online, 2007Multiple pregnancies are a serious adverse event of IVF treatment. Several strategies have been developed to improve embryo selection and embryo developmental potential to increase pregnancy rates without increasing the risk of multiple pregnancies. The only way to effectively solve this problem is to reduce the number of embryos transferred to one ...

Geographic Differences of Pacemaker Implant Rates in Europe
Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, 2002Pacemaker Implant Rates in Europe. Introduction: Pacemaker therapy, which has proved to be the only treatment for symptomatic bradyarrhythmias, exhibits great variation from country to country around the world. The aim of this study was to examine the variations in the number of first implants per calendar year in different European countries and to ...

Speech with Maxillary Implant Prostheses: Ratings of Articulation
Journal of Dental Research, 2004Speech is often perturbed after placement of maxillary implant-retained prostheses. We tested the hypothesis that the rate of speech errors varies with prosthetic design. Thirty edentulous subjects with mandibular implant prostheses entered two within-subject crossover trials. Subjects wore maxillary fixed prostheses and removable long-bar overdentures

Implant rates of cardiac implantable electrical devices in Europe: A systematic literature review
Health Policy, 2016In recent years, indications for cardiac implantable electrical devices (CIEDs) have broadened; however, budget constraints can significantly impact patient access to these life-saving health technologies. To perform a systematic literature review on the implant rates of pacemakers, cardioverter-defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronization therapy ...
