Programmable Variable‐Stiffness Multilayer Elastomer Composites With High‐Aspect‐Ratio Low‐Melting‐Point Alloy Inclusions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
High‐aspect‐ratio low‐melting‐point alloy inclusions are embedded within multilayer silicone laminates to create thermally programmable stiffness. Sequential activation of alloy‐rich layers produces four distinct mechanical states and reconfigures tendon‐driven actuator trajectories under the same load.

Does Implicit Bias Predict Dictator Giving?

open access: yesGames, 2018
Implicit associations and biases are carried without awareness or conscious direction, yet there is reason to believe they may be influenced by social pressures.

A State‐Adaptive Koopman Control Framework for Real‐Time Deformable Tool Manipulation in Robotic Environmental Swabbing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a state‐adaptive Koopman linear quadratic regulator framework for real‐time manipulation of a deformable swab tool in robotic environmental sampling. By combining Koopman linearization, tactile sensing, and centroid‐based force regulation, the system maintains stable contact forces and high coverage across flat and inclined surfaces.

Implicit Bias of the JKO Scheme

open access: yesCoRR
Wasserstein gradient flow provides a general framework for minimizing an energy functional $J$ over the space of probability measures on a Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$. Its canonical time-discretization, the Jordan-Kinderlehrer-Otto (JKO) scheme, produces for any step size $η>0$ a sequence of probability distributions $ρ_k^η$ that approximate to ...

Muscle Control of an Extra Robotic Digit

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study compares muscle‐ and movement‐based control for operating a supernumerary robotic thumb. While movement control performs better in the proposed tasks, muscle‐based (EMG) control promotes broader motor learning. The results highlight the promise and challenges of using biosignals for human augmentation, offering new insights into intuitive ...

Perceiving Teaching Roles Through Biased Eyes: The Effects of Gender and Age

open access: yesSocial Sciences
This study examined how age and gender shape perceptions of suitability for educational roles. Participants were clustered into three groups based on their age.

The Non-Performativity of Implicit Bias Training

open access: yesRadical Teacher, 2018
Implicit bias training is an increasingly common educational intervention in institutions throughout the U.S. I explore the potential of implicit bias training to challenge violent police racism through participant observation in a training for police ...

LLM‐Integrated Human–Robot Interaction System for Microrobots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This paper proposes an LLM‐based control framework for guiding microrobots using human natural language. This framework can convert the natural human speech into safe and executable command sets for reliable navigation in complex environments. The experimental results show high accuracy and robustness in task performance, demonstrating the potential of

Implicit Bias in LLMs: A Survey

open access: yesCoRR
Due to the implement of guardrails by developers, Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated exceptional performance in explicit bias tests. However, bias in LLMs may occur not only explicitly, but also implicitly, much like humans who consciously strive for impartiality yet still harbor implicit bias.
