Butyltin Compounds and Imposex Levels in Ecuador

The first appraisal of butyltins (BT) contamination linked with imposex incidence in the Pacific coast of South America was performed in the current study. Imposex occurrence was analyzed in three muricid species (Thais biserialis, T. brevidentata, and T. kiosquiformis) distributed along 14 sites from the coastal areas of Ecuador.

Spatial distribution of butyltins and imposex in eastern Brazilian Amazon

Spatial distribution of Butyltins (BTs) in surface sediments and gastropod tissues were quantified, with samples taken from an estuarine system of the Eastern Amazon, Brazil. The imposex incidence was also assessed using Thaisella coronata (Gastropoda, Mollusca). The sediment sampling was carried out at 19 sites and T. coronata in 6 of those.

Imposex in Australian Conus

Previously unknown in Conus (Mollusca: Gastropoda) and poorly documented in the Australian region, imposex is demonstrated in 80% of females of six Conus species from Rottnest Island, Western Australia. In no case were the effects sufficiently severe to cause sterility, and reproduction appeared normal.
