Butyltin Compounds and Imposex Levels in Ecuador
Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2011The first appraisal of butyltins (BT) contamination linked with imposex incidence in the Pacific coast of South America was performed in the current study. Imposex occurrence was analyzed in three muricid species (Thais biserialis, T. brevidentata, and T. kiosquiformis) distributed along 14 sites from the coastal areas of Ecuador.

Imposex in New Zealand neogastropods
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 1992Abstract Imposex has been observed in the New Zealand neogastropod species Lepsiella scobina; Thais orbita; Haustrum haustorium; Xymene ambiguus; Taron dubius; Cominella virgata and Amalda (Baryspira) australis. Imposex occurrence in L. scobina has been studied in more detail in the Auckland region, and the sequence of imposex development described ...

Previously unknown in Conus (Mollusca: Gastropoda) and poorly documented in the Australian region, imposex is demonstrated in 80% of females of six Conus species from Rottnest Island, Western Australia. In no case were the effects sufficiently severe to cause sterility, and reproduction appeared normal.

Abstract Tributyltin (TBT) is a marine biocide that alters activity of cytochrome P450 (P450) monooxygenases and elicits androgenization in gastropod molluscs. This study was conducted to determine whether testosterone metabolism was altered in field collected and TBT-induced imposex female mud snail, I. obsoleta.

Evidence of Endocrine Disruption in the Imposex-Affected Gastropod Bolinus brandaris
Environmental Research, 1999Testosterone/estradiol tissue levels and cytochrome P450-dependent aromatase activity have been evaluated in the gastropod Bolinus brandaris. Samples were collected from two locations on the Mediterranean coast (St. Carles and Barcelona) according to their different degrees of imposex development and organotin residues. St.

Spatial distribution of butyltins and imposex in eastern Brazilian Amazon
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2021Spatial distribution of Butyltins (BTs) in surface sediments and gastropod tissues were quantified, with samples taken from an estuarine system of the Eastern Amazon, Brazil. The imposex incidence was also assessed using Thaisella coronata (Gastropoda, Mollusca). The sediment sampling was carried out at 19 sites and T. coronata in 6 of those.

Imposex in Lepsiella vinosa from Southern Australia
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 1993Abstract The deformity ‘imposex’, which is the growth of a penis and/or vas deferens in females of dioecious gastropods, has been associated with the use of tributyltin based marine antifouling paints. We report on a survey of Lepsiella vinosa in Southern Australia which detected imposex at 14 of 20 sites sampled.

NEOGASTROPOD IMPOSEX FOR MONITORING RECOVERY FROM MARINE TBT CONTAMINATION
Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1996Abstract Imposex, the imposition of male sexual characters on female snails, was used as a bioindicator of recovery from tributyltin (TBT) pollution in the Pacific Northwest. Whelks surveyed before TBT use was regulated had shown a high frequency of affected females in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Strait of Georgia; and lower ...

Tributyltin Contamination and Imposex in Alaska Harbors
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2011We quantified imposex in file dogwinkles (Nucella lima) and tributyltin (TBT) contamination in bay mussels (Mytilus trossulus) from 10 harbors and nearby control sites throughout Alaska. We found evidence of TBT contamination in mussels from four harbors (29-54 ng TBT/g wet tissue wt). Two of these harbors now show reduced TBT contamination relative to

Comparison of imposex response in three Prosobranch species
Hydrobiologia, 1995A comparative study of the three gastropod species Nucella lapillus (L.), Ocenebra erinacea (L.) and Hinia (Nassarius) reticulata (L.) reveals that Nucella is the most TBT sensitive species while Hinia is the least sensitive. Of the two imposex indices VDSI and RPSI, good interspecies correlations were obtained only for VDSL The three species can be ...
