A Novel Compound Normalization‐Based Feature Transformation Learning for Driver Identification

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 8, August 2026.
This study presents a compound normalization‐based feature transformation approach for driver identification by integrating Min–Max, Decimal, and Log2$$ {\mathrm{Log}}_2 $$ normalization with learnable weights. The proposed method improves feature representation and supports more effective driver identification performance.

Big Ears: Listening for Gender in Jazz Studies

open access: yesCurrent Musicology, 2001
Injazz, the term "big ears" refers to the ability to hear and make mean-ing out of complex music. One needs "big ears" to make sense of impro-visatory negotiations of tricky changes and multiple simultaneous lines and rhythms.

Contrasting Palaeogeographic Histories but Similar Microevolutionary Responses in Low‐Dispersal Island Grasshoppers From Two Mediterranean Archipelagos

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Island archipelagos serve as natural laboratories for understanding how geological history, climate change and dispersal limitation interact to shape diversification. Here, we examine how these forces influence patterns of genomic divergence, demographic dynamics and phenotypic variation in island‐endemic taxa, with a particular focus on ...

Sensitivity of Tropical Cyclone Forecasts to the Loss of Low Earth Orbit Satellite Observations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 9, 16 May 2026.
Abstract Tropical cyclones are among the most destructive natural hazards, impacting millions of people worldwide each year. Accurate and timely forecasts are therefore essential for effective preparedness and risk mitigation. Forecast skill depends on both the performance of numerical weather prediction models and the observations assimilated into the

Designing of Intelligent Multilingual Patient Reported Outcome System (IMPROS) [PDF]

open access: yesActa Informatica Medica, 2015
By self-reporting outcome procedure the patients themselves record disease symptoms outside medical centers and then report them to medical staff in specific periods of time. One of the self-reporting methods is the application of interactive voice response (IVR), in which some pre-designed questions in the form of voice tracks would be played and then

Exercise retards ongoing adipose tissue fibrosis in diet-induced obese mice

open access: yesEndocrine Connections, 2021
Exercise has been recommended as an important strategy to impro ve glucose metabolism in obesity. Adipose tissue fibrosis is associated with inflammati on and is implicated in glucose metabolism disturbance and insulin resistance in obesit y.

Linking Model Parameter Sensitivities With Hydrological Process Behavior Along Elevation Gradients in Alpine Terrain

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Analyzing process interactions in hydrological systems typically requires catchment‐scale hydrological models, where greater model complexity enhances the representation of physical process behavior but also poses challenges related to parameter equifinality.

Attentive Dual‐Domain Modelling for Error‐Resilient Net Load Forecasting in Intermittent Renewable Power Systems

open access: yesIET Energy Systems Integration, Volume 8, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
ABSTRACT Accurate long‐sequence net load forecasting is essential for reliable grid operation and renewable integration, yet it remains challenging under quasi‐periodicity, sharp weather‐driven variability and long‐range error accumulation. We propose HarmoNet, an end‐to‐end dual‐domain architecture for long‐horizon deterministic and interval ...

Three‐Terminal Configuration Optimisation for Enhancing Hydraulic Shock Absorber Performance With Graph Theory

open access: yesStructural Control and Health Monitoring, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Hydraulic shock absorbers in passenger vehicles typically generate damping through valves and orifices that create a restricted fluid passage between the cylinder’s upper and lower chambers. Motivated by the proven effectiveness of inerters in various applications, this study investigates the integration of hydraulic inertance into this fluid passage ...
