The measure algebra does not always embed

open access: yes, 2000
The Open Colouring Axiom implies that the measure algebra cannot be embedded into P(N)/fin. We also discuss the errors in previous results on the embeddability of the measure algebra.Comment: 10 pages 2000/01/24: final version, 11 ...

Optimizing Haskap Berry (Lonicera caerulea) Storage Conditions and Monitoring Antioxidant Systems

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
Haskap is an emerging crop with a short shelf life, and optimal storage practices remain undefined. This study shows that storage at 0°C best preserves haskap quality by reducing weight loss and enhancing antioxidant systems, including elevated phenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and antioxidant enzyme activity compared to 4°C and 8°C.

Minimum Cost Homomorphisms to Reflexive Digraphs

open access: yes, 2007
For digraphs $G$ and $H$, a homomorphism of $G$ to $H$ is a mapping $f:\ V(G)\dom V(H)$ such that $uv\in A(G)$ implies $f(u)f(v)\in A(H)$. If moreover each vertex $u \in V(G)$ is associated with costs $c_i(u), i \in V(H)$, then the cost of a homomorphism

Improved bound for improper colourings of graphs with no odd clique minor

open access: yes, 2023
Strengthening Hadwiger's conjecture, Gerards and Seymour conjectured in 1995 that every graph with no odd K-t-minor is properly (t - 1)-colourable. This is known as the Odd Hadwiger's conjecture. We prove a relaxation of the above conjecture, namely we show that every graph with no odd K-t-minor admits a vertex (2t - 2)-colouring such that all ...

‘Had it not been for her’: Gender, Care Labour and Disability in the British Caribbean, 1788–1834

open access: yesGender &History, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract This article explores the intersections between gender, disability and care labour in the slaveholding societies of the British Caribbean from 1788 to 1834. Considered economic burdens by slaveholders, aged and disabled bondswomen were made productive through caring for their enslaved peers, many of whom were themselves temporarily ...

Heavy Metal Contamination in Arenillas Ecological Reserve Soils: Correlation and Conservation Impact

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study addresses the critical knowledge gap regarding heavy metal contamination in the soils of the Arenillas Ecological Reserve (AERv), located on the southwest coast of Ecuador. Despite being a fragile and highly biodiverse ecosystem, little is known about the magnitude, spatial distribution, and drivers of heavy metal contamination in ...
