This review systematically explains the synthesis, properties, and energy storage and conversion applications of vanadium carbides. We introduce the structural and the synthetic strategies and reviewed recent developments in the material synthesis processes. The emerging applications of vanadium carbides in energy storage and conversion are highlighted.

Implementation of a state-to-state analytical framework for the calculation of expansion tube flow properties [PDF]
Expansion tubes are an important type of test facility for the study of planetary entry flow-fields, being the only type of impulse facility capable of simulating the aerothermodynamics of superorbital planetary entry conditions from 10 to 20 km/s ...

Metasurface shows selective solar–thermal energy conversion with high‐activity solar/laser‐driven chemistry. The breakthrough is co‐designing broadband FP‐cavity + plasmonic LSPR/SLR resonances in an ultra‐thin metamaterial so that it not only harvests the most efficient proportion of solar radiation but also suppresses mid and IR emissivity. Moreover,

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

The cost of doing business abroad and international capital market equilibrium [PDF]
The implications of the costs of doing business in foreign countries for the resulting capital market equilibrium are studied. When transferring capital goods across national boundaries, the costs incurred are quasi-fixed in a one-good, two-country ...

Statistical mechanics of axisymmetric vortex rings [PDF]
We construct maximum entropy states of a collection of interacting uniform (ω/R=const) axisymmetric vortex rings in a semiperiodic bounded volume. Following Miller [Phys. Rev. Lett. 65, 2137 (1990)] and Robert and Sommeria [J. Fluid Mech. 229, 291 (1991)]

Structural vector autoregressions: theory of identification and algorithms for inference [PDF]
Structural vector autoregressions (SVARs) are widely used for policy analysis and to provide stylized facts for dynamic general equilibrium models. Yet there have been no workable rank conditions to ascertain whether an SVAR is globally identified.

Relating structure and flow of soft colloids [PDF]
To relate the complex macroscopic flow of soft colloids to details of its microscopic equilibrium and non-equilibrium structure is still one big challenge in soft matter science.
