A highly abundant circular RNA from the RMST locus plays a role in posterior fossa ependymoma pathogenesis

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 36, Issue 4, July 2026.
circRMST (hsa_circ_0099634) is by far the most abundant isoform from the RMST locus. It is highly expressed in cancer cells throughout ependymoma patient samples and is located in the cytoplasm. circRMST knockdown causes cell cycle arrest and induces differentiation, and it is a marker for poor prognosis. The figure is made using BioRender.

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 12, 17 June 2026.
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Structural Basis for Nucleobase Activation by the Adenine DNA Glycosylase MutY

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
DNA glycosylase MutY engages its adenine nucleobase substrate in a syn orientation with a catalytic Glu. X‐ray crystal structures of MutY with Glu replaced suggest that a disengaged “on hold” state with anti nucleobase orientation may explain how MutY avoids catastrophic activity at inappropriate adenines.

DNA‐Binding Properties of Iridium(III) Complexes Encompassing Design, Function and Biophysical Assessments

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 27, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
This review describes the biophysical techniques used to investigate DNA‐binding phenomena and the progress made so far in the application of iridium(III) complexes for this purpose. Ir(III) complexes offer myriad opportunities in the design and study of DNA‐binding agents and discussed examples are contextualised with complementary studies in ...
