Experimental activities for in-box LOCA of WCLL BB in LIFUS5/Mod3 facility

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2019
Abstract The new experimental facility LIFUS5/Mod3 has been designed, manufactured and installed to investigate the phenomena connected with the thermodynamic and chemical interaction between lithium-lead and water in case of in-box LOCA (Loss of Coolant Accident) of the WCLL breeding blanket concept and to validate the chemical model implemented in ...

Development of water-cooled blanket concept with pressure tightness against in-box LOCA for JA DEMO

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2019
Abstract A conceptual design of breeding blanket module with pressure tightness against in-box LOCA has been carried out, based on a pressurized water-cooled solid breeder blanket. The cooling water for DEMO is operated at the PWR water conditions of 15.5 MPa and 290 oC-325 oC.

Thermo-hydraulic analysis of PbLi ancillary system of WCLL TBM undergoing in-box LOCA

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2021
Abstract The European liquid Test Blanket Module (TBM) concept named Water Cooled Lithium Lead makes use of the liquid metal alloy PbLi as tritium breeder/neutron multiplier and water as coolant. A dedicated PbLi ancillary system feeds the detritiated liquid metal alloy to the TBM and returns the PbLi enriched with tritium.

Numerical simulations with RELAP5-3D of the first experimental campaign on In-box LOCA transient for HCLL TBS

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2021
Abstract In this work the capabilities of RELAP5-3D are tested against the experimental data gathered in the first experimental campaign on THALLIUM (Test HAmmer in Lead LIthiUM). THALLIUM, a LiPb facility, was built in 2015 at ENEA R.C. Brasimone with the aim to study the In-box LOCA by reproducing the LiPb loop of the HCLL TBS and the pipe forest ...

Experimental investigation on HCLL-TBS In-box LOCA

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2019
Abstract The experimental facility THALLIUM was designed and installed at ENEA C.R. Brasimone to investigate the consequence of a HCLL-TBS In box LOCA, ensuring the geometrical relevance for HCLL-TBM. Within the framework of the contractual activities with Fusion for Energy, a first experimental campaign was carried out in HCLL-TBS relevant ...

Post-test analysis of Series D experiments in LIFUS5/Mod3 facility for SIMMER code validation of WCLL-BB In-box LOCA

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2021
Abstract The In-box LOCA for the WCLL-BB is recognized as a Design Basis Accident (DBA) and is of substantial interest to the DEMOnestration reactor design, therefore, the transient response of such an accident must be carefully investigated and addressed to ensure the safe operation and integrity of the whole system.

Preliminary accident analyses of in-vessel LOCA and In-box LOCA for China helium-cooled ceramic breeder test blanket system

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2016
Abstract The preliminary transient accident analysis has been carried out since 2005 for China Helium Cooled Ceramic Breeder Test Blanket Module (CN HCCB TBM) on ITER equatorial port #2. In this paper, the RELAP5 model is recreated according to the design of the CN HCCB 1 × 4 TBM and its cooling system, and two design basis accidents (In-Vessel Loss ...

Transient pressure propagation behavior in PbLi loop system triggered by in-box LOCA accident of DFLL blanket

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2019
Abstract In-box LOCA accident is considered as a Design Basis Accident (DBA) of a fusion blanket because of its frequency and serious consequence. For a liquid metal blanket such as Dual-Functional Lithium Lead (DFLL) blanket, in-box LOCA not only causes pressurization in breeder box, but also propagates transient high pressure to Lithium Lead (PbLi)

Sensitivity study on in-box LOCA for a Korean HCCR TBM in ITER

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2014
Abstract Korea has designed a Helium-Cooled Ceramic Reflector (HCCR)-based Test Blanket System (TBS) for International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). Among seven selected reference accidents in Korean TBS, in-box loss of coolant accident (LOCA) is one of them.
