The In-Plane Seismic Response of Infilled Reinforced Concrete Frames Using a Strut Modelling Approach: Validation and Applications

open access: yesBuildings
Reinforced Concrete (RC) buildings often rely on masonry walls to increase their rigidity and strength, distinguishing them from bare frames. Consequently, the lateral capacity of the RC frames is significantly impacted by the presence or absence of ...

Modal Decomposition of Acoustic Emissions from Pencil-Lead Breaks in an Isotropic Thin Plate

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Acoustic emission (AE) testing and Lamb wave inspection techniques have been widely used in non-destructive testing and structural health monitoring. For thin plates, the AEs arising from structural defect development (e.g., fatigue crack propagation ...

In-Plane Testing of Damaged Masonry Wall Repaired with FRP [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Composites Letters, 2002
This paper describes the performance of a masonry wall repaired with glass fibre reinforced polymer, GFRP sheets. The original reinforced clay brick masonry wall was tested under in-plane lateral cyclic loading. Failure occurred due to yielding of the steel reinforcement and crushing of the bricks.

A Contactless Laser Doppler Strain Sensor for Fatigue Testing with Resonance-Testing Machine

open access: yesSensors, 2021
In this article, a non-contact laser Doppler strain sensor designed for fatigue testing with the resonance-testing machine is presented. The compact sensor measures in-plane displacements simultaneously from two adjacent points using the principle of in ...
