Process Modelling of IN718 for Free Forging

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007
Ni based alloy IN718 is important material used for engine shafts, turbine disks of gas turbine engines. The grain refining of the IN718 becomes important because of the improvement of reliability. We have developed newly advanced δ process to obtain the grain of less than 22.5 μ m (ASTM No.8.0) even after solution treatment.

Selective Laser Melting: Characteristics of IN718 Powder and Microstructures of Fabricated IN718 Sample

2015
Powder characteristics have a significant influence on selective laser melting (SLM) process. In this research, particle size, surface contour and the microstructure of IN718 powder used in SLM were tested, and the physical and chemical changes during heating process of the powder were investigated as well. The shape characteristic and fluid properties

Oxygen-Induced Intergranular Decohesion in IN718

Materials Science Forum, 1998
The cracking of IN718 was studied under static loads in air and oxygen and found to undergo oxygen-induced dynamic embrittlement in the same way as in steels with surface-adsorbed sulfur and in bronze with surface-adsorbed tin. When the oxygen supply at the surface is plentiful, the intergranular fracture surface exhibits decohesion with no apparent ...

Optimization of the Post Heat Treatment of Additively Manufactured IN718

Heat Treating Conference, 2021
Abstract IN718 has good fabricability, high strength at elevated temperature, and corrosion resistance, and it is widely deployed in many aerospace and other high-performance applications. With the molten pool rapid solidification during laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF), the resulting microstructure is anisotropic and inhibits macro ...

Synergy of tensile strength-ductility in IN718/CoCrFeMnNi/IN718 multi-material processed by powder high-pressure torsion and annealing

Scripta Materialia, 2023
© 2022 Acta Materialia Inc.Materials manufactured through conventional powder metallurgy (PM) techniques generally exhibit inferior tensile properties due to structural defects. Nevertheless, a recently proposed cold-consolidation technique using powder high-pressure torsion represents well-manufactured structures with ultra-high tensile properties in ...

Superplasticity and diffusion bonding of IN718 superalloy

Acta Metallurgica Sinica (English Letters), 2007
The superplasticity and diffusion bonding of IN718 superalloy were studied in this article. The strain rate sensitivity index m was obtained at different temperatures and various initial strain rates using the tensile speed mutation method; m readied its maximum value 0.53 at an inititil strain rate of 1×10−4s−1 at 1253K.

Dynamic recrystallization and texture modeling of IN718 superalloy

Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering, 2017
In the present study, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) of IN718 superalloy was modeled based on the experimental data as well as modified cellular automaton (CA) methods. To verify the ability of the presented models for predicting the microstructural features, the electron backscattered diffraction technique was used.

Crack growth in IN718 at high temperature

International Journal of Fatigue, 2001
Abstract Crack growth tests have been performed on specimens with rectangular cross-section of Inconel 718 at 550 and 687°C in order to examine the low-cycle fatigue behaviour. Frequencies of 0.5 and 10 Hz were employed. Symmetric strain-controlled tests with a strain range of Δ e =1.5% and load controlled zero-tensile tests with a maximum load of ...

Hydrogen permeation behavior in IN718 and GH761 superalloys

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 1994
In the present work, two nickel-iron-chromium-base superalloys, INCONEL718 and GH761, were heat-treated to obtain different microstructures in the alloys. The hydrogen permeability and diffusivity for the two alloys in various conditions were determined using a gaseous-hydrogen permeation technique to examine the influence of microstructures on ...

Residual stresses in forged IN718 turbine discs

Zeitschrift für Metallkunde, 2004
Abstract Residual stresses play an important role in the production of forged components like turbine discs. Variations in the processing parameters can lead to different residual stress states, which complicate subsequent processing steps, e. g. turning to the final shape.
