Establishment and characterization of a primary and a metastatic melanoma cell line from Grey horses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The Grey horse phenotype, caused by a 4.6 kb duplication in Syntaxin 17, is strongly associated with high incidence of melanoma. In contrast to most human melanomas with an early onset of metastasis, the Grey horse melanomas have an extended period of ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Establishment and in vitro multiplication of thornless blackberry (rubus glaucus benth.) by shoot apical meristems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We evaluated a technique of micropropagation in a thornless variety of blackberry (Rubus glaucus) from shoot apical meristems. In the establishment phase, we evaluated a disinfection protocol: soapy solution (commercial detergent and water) for 5 minutes

In vitro culture and establishment of Anthurium parvispathum

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Botany, 1998
Sterilized seed of Anthurium parvispathum were germinated and used as explant source. The decontaminated germinated seedlings were excised and placed onto a multiplication medium containing 2mgl−1 BA and 0.2mgl−1 NAA. On average a 4-fold increase in the number of shoots produced was achieved on this medium.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

In vitro establishment of Dipteryx alata Vog [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The barueiro (Dipteryx alata Vog.) is a fruit crop of the Cerrado of great importance in food and feed, the recovery of degraded areas and landscaping. It is set in an environment where natural devastation promoted by human activities puts you at risk of
