Inactivation of the X-Chromosome

New England Journal of Medicine, 1972
IN its classic form, the hypothesis of X-chromosome inactivation holds that only one of the two X-chromosomes present in cells of female mammals is functional. The "decision" of which X-chromosome is to operate in a cell occurs quite early in embryogenesis and, once made, is irreversible for that cell and all its progeny.

Enzymatic Inactivation of Secretin

Nature, 1951
THE inactivation of secretin by whole blood, cell-free plasma, serum and urine has been demonstrated by Greengard and Ivy1,2 to be an enzymatic process. Because of the stability of their secretin preparations towards crystalline pepsin and trypsin and the absence of detectable proteolytic activity of blood, they concluded that ‘secretinase’ was not a ...

Biogenesis and Inactivation of Catecholestrogens

1997
Publisher Summary Catecholestrogens (CEs) can be generated by several discrete enzymatic pathways that can result in the formation of both 2- and 4- hydroxylated CEs (4-OH-CEs). These two classes of CEs differ in their properties both as catechols and as estrogens (Es). This chapter summarizes the value of these insights, availability of specific and

THE INACTIVATION OF TRYPSIN : III. SPONTANEOUS INACTIVATION.

The Journal of general physiology, 2010
1. The rate of inactivation of purified trypsin solutions approximates closely that demanded by the monomolecular formula. The more carefully the solution is purified the closer the agreement with the formula. 2. The products formed by the action of trypsin on proteins renders the trypsin more stable. Gelatin and glycine have no effect. 3.

Cell inactivation by ultrasound

Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1976
AbstractCell survival curves have been obtained for Escherichia coli B (E. coli B) after the sonication of suspensions of the bacteria with continuous wave ultrasound at a fixed frequency of 2 MHz between peak intensities of 8.7 and 2.25 W cm−2. It was found that under suitable conditions the survival curves were reproducible and it also was found that
