Multi-Modal Ensemble Deep Learning in Head and Neck Cancer HPV Sub-Typing

open access: yesBioengineering, 2023
Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OPSCC) is one of the common forms of heterogeneity in head and neck cancer. Infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) has been identified as a major risk factor for OPSCC. Therefore, differentiating the HPV-positive

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The Independent Counsel Statute: A Legal History [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Priester et al provide a comprehensive legal history of the independent counsel statute from its inception in 1978 until its apparent last hurrah in 1999. They also explore the role of the independent counsel in the history and practice of the government\

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

EXNet: (2+1)D Extreme Xception Net for Hyperspectral Image Classification

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
3-D CNNs have demonstrated their capability to capture intricate nonlinear relationships within hyperspectral images (HSIs). However, the computational complexity of 3-D CNNs often leads to slower processing speeds, limited generalization, and ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Cavitation Nuclei Population and Event Rates [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
To model the processes of cavitation inception, noise and damage, it is necessary to generate a model of the cavitation event rate which can then be coupled with the consequences of the individual events to produce a complete synthesis of the phenomenon.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Numerical simulation of the backscattering of pressure waves from a bubble interface

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
The direct numerical simulations are conducted for the backscattering of incident pressure waves from a bubble with the ghost fluid method in order to understand the formation of secondary cavitation in the high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). It is
