Recycling of Polyurethane via Mechanocatalytic Methanolysis/Hydrolysis

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
In this study, it is shown that up to 86% of soluble polyol can be recovered from the hydrolysis of polyurethane using a ball milling‐assisted process below 100 °C in the presence of NaOH, a small amount of H2O and a Cu/MgAlOx co‐catalyst. Polyurethane (PU) is the 6th most produced plastic on a global basis, and thus one of the most important targets ...

Formate Production from Simulated Quasi Flue Gas Combining a Molecular Catalyst and a Modified Electrode

open access: yesChemSusChem, Accepted Article.
Molecular metal complexes form an important class of catalysts for the electroreduction of CO2 (CO2RR) to carbon monoxide (CO) or formic acid (HCOOH), key processes in the context of the requested exploration of novel sources of carbon, alternative to fossil fuels.

A STOCHASTIC SIMULATION-BASED HYBRID INTERVAL FUZZY PROGRAMMING APPROACH FOR OPTIMIZING THE TREATMENT OF RECOVERED OILY WATER [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, a stochastic simulation-based hybrid interval fuzzy programming (SHIFP) approach is developed to aid the decision-making process by solving fuzzy linear optimization problems.

Continuous Flow Depolymerization of Polycarbonates and Poly(lactic acid) Promoted by Supported Organocatalysts

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
The chemical recycling of plastic waste plays a crucial role in promoting a circular economy. This work reports on the use of recyclable heterogeneous organocatalysts to promote common polycarbonate and polyester glycolysis. Poly(lactic acid) and bisphenol A polycarbonate are here depolymerized at low temperatures in a continuous approach, proving ...

Process Integration and Life‐Cycle Assessment of Moist‐Solid Hydrolysis of Polylactic Acid with Lactic Acid Recovery via Electrodialysis

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
In this study, an innovative polylactic acid recycling process by integration of mechanically induced moist‐solid hydrolysis depolymerization and further recovery of lactic acid vis bipolar membrane electrolysis is reported. In‐depth life‐cycle assessment is benchmarked to conventional waste management and lactic acid production, highlighting the ...

How Do We Get Rid of These Things? Dismantling Excess Weapons While Protecting the Environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The startling successes of contemporary international arms control negotiations call to mind the old aphorism that one should be careful about what one wishes for, because the wish just might come true.
