Hybrid machining of Inconel 718
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2003Abstract A new approach for machining of Inconel 718 is presented in this paper. It combines traditional turning with cryogenically enhanced machining and plasma enhanced machining. Cryogenically enhanced machining is used to reduce the temperatures in the cutting tool, and thus reduces temperature-dependent tool wear to prolong tool life, whereas ...

The machinability of inconel 718
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1997Abstract Inconel 718, a high strength, thermal resistant Nickel-based alloy, is mainly used in the aircraft industries. Due to the extreme toughness and work hardening characteristics of the alloy, the problem of machining Inconel 718 is one of ever-increasing magnitude, This paper discusses the effect of cutting conditions on the machinability of ...

Cold Spray Forming of Inconel 718
Journal of Thermal Spray Technology, 2012Inconel 718 was cold spray formed to a 6-mm thickness on an 8-cm diameter aluminum alloy tube using Sulzer Amdry 1718 powder and the Plasma Giken PCS-1000 cold spray system. The effects of spray particle velocity and post-spray heat treatment were studied. Post-spray annealing was performed from 950 to 1250 °C for 1-2 h.

Broaching of Inconel 718 with cemented carbide
Production Engineering, 2013Broaching is the standard process for machining complex-shaped slots in turbine discs. More flexible processes such as milling, wire EDM machining and water-jet cutting are under investigation and show promising results. In order to further use existing resources and process knowledge, the broaching process has to be improved towards higher material ...

Cold Spray Forming Inconel 718
International Thermal Spray Conference, 2012Abstract In this investigation, Inconel 718, a material known to cause nozzle clogging upon cold spraying, was cold spray formed to 6 mm-thick using the Plasma Giken cold spray system PCS- 1000. This was made possible due to the novel non-clogging nozzle material combined with a nozzle water cooling system.

Deformation bands in Inconel 718
Materials Science and Technology, 1995AbstractThe deformation bands formed under monotonic loading in the homogenised and the aged Inconel 718 have been investigated using transmission electron microscopy. The crystallographic behaviour of the deformation bands is discussed. The orientations of the deformation bands were observed in tranmission electron micrographs as follows: two ...

Niobium segregation in Inconel 718
Journal of Materials Science, 1999The segregation of niobium in Inconel 718 was investigated by means of X-ray diffraction. It was found that the very weak and diffuse profiles of sidebands on the lower angle side of γ phase (2 0 0), (2 2 0), (3 1 1), (2 2 2) diffraction peaks were observed in the X-ray diffraction patterns of Inconel 718 cold rolled to 25% reduction, and then solution

Superplastic properties of Inconel 718
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2003Abstract The superplastic tensile test of Inconel 718 was carried out using cylinder-like specimens, the flow stress, the strain rate and the value of m under different strain rates and different deformation temperature being examined. Excellent elongation (467%) and high flow stress (41.3 MPa) were gained in the superplastic tensile test of ...

INCONEL 718: A solidification diagram
Metallurgical Transactions A, 1989As part of a program studying weldability of Ni-base superalloys, results of an integrated analytical approach are used to generate a constitution diagram for INCONEL 718* in the temperature range associated with solidification. Differential thermal analysis of wrought material and optical and scanning electron microscopy, electron probe microanalysis,
