3D Printing Innovations in Polymeric Porous and Patterned Architecture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polymeric foams occupy a unique structural space between dense solids and open networks, where engineered void fraction governs mechanical compliance, thermal resistance, and mass transport. Additive manufacturing now enables precise spatial control over cellular architecture, unlocking designer foam structures across applications spanning crash ...

The Taxation of Fuel Economy [PDF]

open access: yes
Policy-makers have instituted a variety of fuel economy tax policies -- polices that tax or subsidize new vehicle purchases on the basis of fuel economy performance -- in the hopes of improving fleet fuel economy and reducing gasoline consumption.

Facile Preparation of Carbon Membranes Derived from a Fluorenyl‐Containing Polyimine for Selective Hydrogen Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A fluorenyl‐containing polyimine is introduced as a simple, scalable precursor for high‐performance carbon membranes. The precursor's intrinsic kinked structure enables defect‐free membrane formation with enhanced hydrogen permeance and excellent ideal selectivities for key industrial gas pairs (H2/N2, H2/CH4, and H2/CO2), offering a practical route ...

How Do Gasoline Prices Affect Fleet Fuel Economy? [PDF]

open access: yes
Exploiting a rich data set of passenger vehicle registrations in twenty U.S. metropolitan statistical areas from 1997 to 2005, we examine the effects of gasoline prices on the automotive fleet's composition. We find that high gasoline prices affect fleet

Assessing the Paradox of Autonomous Vehicles: Promised Fuel Efficiency vs. Aggregate Fuel Consumption

open access: yes
As autonomous vehicles (AVs) continue to evolve and approach widespread adoption in the near future, the touted benefits of improved fuel efficiency at an individual level come under scrutiny when considering the overall impact on fuel consumption.

Magnetic‐Field Control of Surface States in CoFe2O4 Thin Films for Nitrate Electroreduction to Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic‐field‐assisted CVD of heterometallic single‐source precursors modulates thin‐film surface electronic structure and interfacial charge transfer. Field‐grown (Cobalt ferrite‐1T)CF‐1T films exhibit stabilized electronic states, lower kinetic barriers, and markedly enhanced nitrate‐to‐ammonia electrocatalysis versus (Cobalt ferrite‐0T) CF‐0T ...

Corporate Average Fuel Economy Standards and the Market for New Vehicles [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents an overview of the economics literature on the effect of Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards on the new vehicle market. Since 1978, CAFE has imposed fuel economy standards for cars and light trucks sold in the U.S. market.

Analysis of energy, exergy and CO2 emissions in a fiberglass furnace with oxy-fuel combustion

open access: yes, 2023
Energy savings and emission reductions in the building materials industry are key components of China's "dual carbon" goals. A new mathematical model of material, energy, exergy, and carbon flows was established and verified against operational data for ...

A Holistic Stabilization of the Anode in Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries Through a Ternary Alloy Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
LiTeAl anodes fabricated through a scalable thermal fusion technique holistically addresses the stability issues faced by lithium‐metal anodes in lithium–sulfur batteries. Aluminum forming a skeletal network with lithium suppresses dendrite growth and enhances energy density, while tellurium forming a robust SEI facilitates Li+‐ion flow.
