Indacaterol once-daily is equally effective dosed in the evening or morning in COPD [PDF]
SummaryIndacaterol is a novel, inhaled, long-acting β2-agonist providing 24-h bronchodilation with once-daily (o.d.) dosing in patients with COPD.In this double-blind, incomplete block crossover study, patients with moderate-to-severe COPD were ...

The Design of the Indacaterol Molecule
2013β2-Adrenoceptor agonists have been used as bronchodilators for the treatment of asthma and COPD for over a century. Throughout this period, β2-adrenoceptor agonists have continued to evolve to best meet the needs of the patient, with improvements having been made to the selectivity, route of administration and duration of effect.

The Risks and Benefits of Indacaterol — The FDA's Review
New England Journal of Medicine, 2011In July, the FDA approved Arcapta Neohaler (indacaterol maleate powder), a long-acting beta-agonist, at a daily dose of 75 μg for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Why was this dose selected, after the European Medicines Agency approved 150-μg and 300-μg doses?

Rapid enantiomeric separation of indacaterol by electrokinetic chromatography
The first chiral methodology enabling the separation of indacaterol enantiomers was developed in this work by cyclodextrin-electrokinetic chromatography. Indacaterol (IND) is a chiral drug marketed as a pure enantiomer. Then, the separation and quantification of each enantiomer is of great importance for the quality control of pharmaceutical ...

Use of indacaterol for the treatment of COPD: a pharmacokinetic evaluation
Expert Opinion on Drug Metabolism & Toxicology, 2013Indacaterol is a β2-agonist with a rapid onset of action and a bronchodilating effect that lasts for 24 h.This review considers indacaterol in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients, in whom it is rapidly absorbed into the systemic circulation with serum levels measurable after 5 min and Cmax being reached approximately 15 min post-dose.

The effect of indacaterol during an acute exacerbation of COPD
Pulmonary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 2013Some clinical trials have suggested that the inhaled long-acting β2-agonists (LABAs) may be effective in the treatment of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). Since indacaterol, the first once-daily LABA to be developed for the regular treatment of COPD, exhibits fast onset of action and 24-h duration of ...

The Early Clinical Development of Indacaterol
2013Indacaterol is a novel once-daily β2-adrenoceptor agonist developed for the treatment of obstructive airway diseases. While indacaterol is now approved for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in several countries worldwide, the early clinical development of indacaterol was conducted in both asthma and COPD patients.

Indacaterol for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
2023Therapeutics Letter 102 reviews indacaterol for obstructive pulmonary disease. Conclusions: The only single product dose of inhaled indacaterol approved in Canada is 75 µg. Doses of indacaterol higher than 75 µg were not significantly different in any clinically meaningful outcome measure as compared to lower doses.
