Asymmetric elliptic problems in $R^N$

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2006
We work on the whole $R^N$ and prove the existence of a first nonprincipal eigenvalue for an asymmetric problem with weights involving the p-Laplacian. As an application we obtain a first nontrivial curve in the corresponding Fucik spectrum.

Prevalence of Opioid Use and Associated Healthcare Outcomes in Rome IV Irritable Bowel Syndrome in the United Kingdom

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
One in five people with Rome IV irritable bowel syndrome use opioids on a regular basis. Compared with non‐users, opioid users had worse quality of life, greater psychological impairment, and higher direct healthcare costs. ABSTRACT Background The United Kingdom (UK) has one of the highest worldwide opioid prescription rates per capita.

Infinite semipositone problems with indefinite weight and asymptotically linear growth forcing-terms

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2013
In this work, we study the existence of positive solutions to the singular problem $$displaylines{ -Delta_{p}u = lambda m(x)f(u)-u^{-alpha} quad hbox{in }Omega,cr u = 0 quad hbox{on }partial Omega, }$$ where $lambda$ is positive parameter, $Omega $

Strongly indefinite systems with critical sobolev exponents and weights

open access: yesApplied Mathematics Letters, 2004
Let \(\Omega\) be a bounded smooth domain in \(\mathbb R^N\), \(N\geq 4\) and \(\lambda,\mu\in\mathbb R\). The author deals with the following problem: \[ -\Delta v=\lambda u+K(x)|u|^{p-1}u\text{ in }\Omega, \quad -\Delta u=\mu v+ Q(x)|v|^{q-1}v\text{ in }\Omega, \quad u=v=0\text{ on }\partial\Omega, \tag{1} \] where \(p,q>1\) and coefficients \(K,Q ...

High Risk of Colorectal Cancer After High‐Grade Dysplasia in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Patients

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
The advantages of colon‐sparing treatment for high‐grade dysplasia should be weighed against the higher risk of metachronous colorectal cancer and the subsequent need for stringent endoscopic surveillance. ABSTRACT Background There are limited data on colorectal cancer (CRC) risk after high‐grade dysplasia in inflammatory bowel disease.

An ethical case against “responsible” gambling advertising: A UK context‐based, semiotic perspective

open access: yesBusiness and Society Review, EarlyView.
Abstract Gambling advertising has hardly been subjected to moral scrutiny, and ethical evaluation is long overdue. In this paper, I put “responsible gambling” messages of UK marketing campaigns purporting efforts by the gambling industry to encourage safer gambling to ethical scrutiny.

Eigencurves of the p-Laplacian with weights and their asymptotic behavior

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2007
In this paper we study the existence of the eigencurves of the p-Laplacian with indefinite weights. We obtain also their variational formulations and asymptotic behavior.

Self‐Giving and Reflections on Life Extension: How Love Might Shape the Choice of Whether to Live Past a Natural Human Lifespan

open access: yesBioethics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drawing upon a deprivationist account of the badness of death, Ingemar Patrick Linden advocates for a hypothetical state called “contingent immortality.” The future Linden champions is one in which every person would be able to live for as long as they would like, save for events like accidents or murder.
