An efficient indefiniteness inference scheme in indefinite deductive databases
IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, 1994We introduce an inference scheme, based on the compilation approach, that can answer "true," provable-false," "indefinite," or "assumable-false" to a closed query in an indefinite deductive database under the generalized closed world assumption. The inference scheme proposed in this paper consists of a representation scheme and an evaluation process ...

Indefinite integration with validation
ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software, 1989We present an overview of two approaches to validated one-dimensional indefinite integration. The first approach is to find an inclusion of the integrand, then integrate this inclusion to obtain an inclusion of the indefinite integral. Inclusions for the integrand may be obtained from Taylor polynomials, Tschebyscheff polynomials, or other ...

Indefiniteness of Mathematical Objects
Philosophia Mathematica, 2000Der von \textit{P. Benacerraf} [``Mathematical truth'', J. Philos.

Aspects of the Indefiniteness Effect
2007This paper proposes an account for the indefiniteness effect discussed in [1]. We shall argue that the effect arises from (a) the tendency of indefinites in certain interrogative constructions to take wide scope over WH-terms, resulting in 'quantifying into' questions, and (b) the pragmatic impropiety of interrogatives with wide scope taking ...

Let $A$ be a Hermitian positive definite matrix given by its rectangular factor $G$ such that $A = G^{; ; ; \ast}; ; ; G$. It is well known that the Cholesky factorization of $A$ is equivalent to the QR factorization of $G$. In this paper, an analogue of the QR factorization for Hermitian indefinite matrices is constructed.

Abstract This chapter does not offer a complete survey of indefinites (determiner phrases (DPs) such as a boy, some girls, three women, etc.). Rather, it offers a selective discussion pivoted on the peculiar wide-scope properties of indefinites and also a seminal proposal for the explanation of such idiosyncrasy, which is that a choice ...
