Study of mechanical response in embossing of ceramic green substrate by micro-indentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Micro-indentation test with a micro flat-end cone indenter was employed to simulate micro embossing process and investigate the thermo-mechanical response of ceramic green substrates.

The influence of indenter tip rounding on the indentation size effect [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2010
Abstract A model was developed to interpret the indentation size effect (ISE). The model considers the tip wear effect, causing a rounded tip, the plastic zone size and various strengthening contributions, including geometrically necessary dislocations, pre-existing statistically stored dislocations and grain size.

Graphene–Catechol Dental Sealant: Antibacterial and Mechanical Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents dental sealants made with graphene and L‐DOPA‐modified graphene. L‐DOPA enhances graphene dispersion, improving sealant properties. The material shows antibacterial activity against S. mutans and L. casei, along with high strength and elasticity.

A Simulative Approach for the Prediction of Mesoscale Residual Stress Fields in Solution‐Strengthened Ferritic Ductile Iron

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a 3D representative volume element‐based simulation approach to predict mesoscopic residual stress and strain fields in silicon solid solution‐strengthened ductile cast iron. By modeling phase transformation kinetics with an enhanced Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov model, the effects of varying cooling rates on residual stresses are ...

Assessment of crystallographic influence on material properties of calcite brachiopods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Calcium carbonate biominerals are frequently analysed in materials science due to their abundance, diversity and unique material properties. Aragonite nacre is intensively studied, but less information is available about the material properties of ...

Accurate Modelling of AFM Force-Indentation Curves with Blunted Indenters at Small Indentation Depths

open access: yesMicromachines
When testing biological samples with atomic force microscopy (AFM) nanoindentation using pyramidal indenters, Sneddon’s equation is commonly used for data processing, approximating the indenter as a perfect cone. While more accurate models treat the AFM tip as a blunted cone or pyramid, these are complex and lack a direct relationship between applied ...

Development of Aluminum Scandium Alloys for Hydrogen Storage Valves

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Different aluminum alloy series and various aluminum‐scandium alloys with differing Sc and Zr levels are evaluated for use in hydrogen storage valve production. The alloys undergo hardness testing, optical microscopy, and tensile strength analysis, with hardening behavior studied under varying conditions.

Effects of Testing Temperature on the Serration Behavior of an Al–Zn–Mg–Cu Alloy with Natural and Artificial Aging in Sharp Indentation

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Serration phenomena, in which stress fluctuates in a saw-tooth shape, occur when a uniaxial test is performed on an aluminum alloy containing a solid solution of solute atoms.
