The Correlation of Indentation Size Effect Experiments with Pyramidal and Spherical Indenters [PDF]
ABSTRACTExperiments were conducted in annealed iridium using pyramidal and spherical indenters over a wide range of load. For a Berkovich pyramidal indenter, the hardness increased with decreasing depth of penetration. However, for spherical indenters, hardness increased with decreasing sphere radius.

The influence of indenter tip rounding on the indentation size effect [PDF]
Abstract A model was developed to interpret the indentation size effect (ISE). The model considers the tip wear effect, causing a rounded tip, the plastic zone size and various strengthening contributions, including geometrically necessary dislocations, pre-existing statistically stored dislocations and grain size.

The so-called indentation size effect (ISE) observed mainly in nanoindentation measurements with prismatic tips, is theoretically modeled in this article with the use of gradient theory. It is shown that the ISE, i.e.

A gradient elasticity approach to the indentation size effect at very small depths
Over the past two decades, the indentation size effect (ISE) has been studied extensively by several authors. A common point among all these studies has been the premise that during the indentation process sufficient plastic deformation is developed so ...

Investigation of the mechanism of the indentation size effect for titanium
In this study, we investigated the mechanism of the indentation size effect for Ti, whose crystal structure is hexagonal close-packed. Indentation tests were performed for two types of single-crystal Ti with different crystal orientations: (0001) and ...

Study on Size Effect in Indentation Tests
The depth dependence of the indentation hardness, i.e., the indentation size effect (ISE), was manifested as an increase or decrease in hardness when penetration depth decreases, which was observed by previous experiments. Most scholars believe it is generated by strain gradient.

INDENTATION SIZE EFFECT OF HEAT TREATED ALUMINUM ALLOY
The aim of the submitted work is to study the influence of applied loads ranging from 0.09807 N to 0.9807 N on measured values of micro-hardness of heat treated aluminum alloy 6082. The influence of applied load on a measured value of micro-hardness was

Nanoindentation of zirconium based bulk metallic glass and its nanomechanical properties
Nanoindentation experiments with a Berkovich tip are performed on zirconium based bulk metallic glass (Zr-BMG, Zr65Cu15Al10Ni10) to study its deformation and mechanical properties (elastic modulus and hardness) at nanoscale. Further to reveal indentation-

Indentation Depth Dependent Mechanical Behavior in Polymers
Various experimental studies have revealed size dependent deformation of materials at micro and submicron length scales. Among different experimental methods, nanoindentation testing is arguably the most commonly applied method of studying size effect in
