Process‐Informed Analysis of As‐Built Metal Additive Surface Features
This article introduces a novel method for feature‐based surface texture characterisation directly incorporating manufacturing variables into the feature extraction workflow. This marks a major step towards identifying process‐specific surface properties and their influence on part function and hence a holistic understanding of process–structure ...

Evaluation of helium effect on ion-irradiation hardening in pure tungsten by nano-indentation method
As-received and recrystallized pure tungsten (W) were irradiated with 6.4MeV Fe3+ up to 2dpa with or without He+ at 300°C, 500°C, 700°C and 1000°C respectively. Irradiation hardening was measured by the nano-indentation method.

Duplex Stainless Steel Laser‐Surface Textured: Stability in Brine Solution
Controlled laser‐surface treatment (LST) of duplex DSS2205 steel is performed to increase its stability in brine solution under cyclic electrochemical assays. The superior protection with respect to flat and smooth panels is attributed to the presence of FeCr2O4 as the main protective oxide layer in the LST surface, after corrosion tests. The stability

It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Effect of annealing ambient conditions on crack formation mechanisms of bulk Bi-2212 ceramic systems
This study paves way to examine the influence of different annealing conditions (temperature range of 830-850°C and duration intervals 24-48 h) on the fundamental mechanical performance and characteristic quantities of polycrystalline Bi2.1Sr2.0Ca1.1Cu2 ...

Indentation Size Effect on the Hardness of Silicon Carbide Ceramics [PDF]
The Vickers hardness of CVD SiC ceramics is determined as a function of the indentation load. Vickers hardness pyramid-shaped sharp diamond indenter with angle between opposite faces at an angle of 136° was used to apply five indentation loads of 4.91; 9.

Characterization of indentation size effects in epoxy
Abstract Nanoindentation tests were conducted at different indentation depths, ranging from 3000 to 30 nm, to study the characteristics of indentation size effects in epoxy. Taking the effects of tip imperfection/bluntness into account, nanoindentation tests performed with a three-sided Berkovich tip exhibited strong increases in the hardness with ...
