Dimeric pyruvate formate‐lyase cleaves pyruvate using a radical‐based mechanism. G734 serves as a radical storage location, and the radical is transferred to the catalytic C419 residue. Mutation of the C418‐C419 pair causes loss of enzyme activity, but does not impede radical introduction onto G734. Therefore, cis‐ but not trans‐radical transfer occurs

On Statistical Independence and Density Independence
Abstract In the first part we recall the notion of statistical independence. The second part is devoted to the definition of selective density and its connection with the distribution of sequences. Then we define the independence of sequences with respect to selective density.

To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

Complete mitogenome of the ixodid tick Dermacentor reticulatus (Acari: Ixodida)
Here, we present the complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of Dermacentor reticulatus. The mitogenome is 14,806 bp and contains 13 protein-coding, 2 rRNA, and 22 tRNA genes, along with 2 control regions.

A Reflection on the Independence of Independent Agencies
Independent agencies should not be independent. I believe that for policy as well as for constitutional reasons. When I was Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), I often posed to myself the following question: "To whom am I accountable?" Often, it seemed, the answer would be: "To 435 Congressmen, 100 Senators, and the President himselfl" On ...

Disruption of SETD3‐mediated histidine‐73 methylation by the BWCFF‐associated β‐actin G74S mutation
The β‐actin G74S mutation causes altered interaction of actin with SETD3, reducing histidine‐73 methylation efficiency and forming two distinct actin variants. The variable ratio of these variants across cell types and developmental stages contributes to tissue‐specific phenotypical changes. This imbalance may impair actin dynamics and mechanosensitive

Circulating histones as clinical biomarkers in critically ill conditions
Circulating histones are emerging as promising biomarkers in critical illness due to their diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic potential. Detection methods such as ELISA and mass spectrometry provide reliable approaches for quantifying histone levels in plasma samples.

Independent Judges and Independent Justice [PDF]
American judges come from a long tradition of judicial independence, even when the formal British regime curtailed that independence. For example, English judges had no independence before 1701-and not much after that date. There was no practice of judicial review; judges did not strike down legislative enactments.
