Independent Sets in Hypergraphs [PDF]
In this dissertation, we study problems concerning independent sets in hypergraphs. We try to determine the minimum independence number of a hypergraph in a certain family of hypergraphs. In Chapter 1, we introduce history of this kind of problems.

ABSTRACT Background Children with sickle cell disease (SCD) face multiple acute and chronic medical complications that may impact their quality of life as reported by patients themselves. Health‐related social needs (HRSNs), such as food and housing insecurity, are common in people with SCD, but the association between HRSNs and patient‐reported ...

In a general set-theoretic context, an independent set is defined as a set which avoids certain specified structures called blocks. A formula is given for the number of independent sets of cardinality $k$ in terms of the numbers of configurations (i.e ...

On the Independent Set Interdiction Problem [PDF]
Summary: The purpose of the independent set interdiction problem in the weighted graph \(G\) is to determine a set of vertices \(R^\ast\) such that the weight of the maximum independent set in \(G-R^\ast\) is minimized. We define an approximate solution for this problem. Then, an upper bound for the relative error of this problem is obtained.

ABSTRACT Cup‐like nuclei are a distinctive morphological feature observed in certain cases of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). We provide evidence that they characterize DUX4/ERG ALL independently of IKZF1 deletion and reveal marked mitochondrial accumulation in this ALL subset.

ABSTRACT Background Combined oral contraceptive (COC) use in obese adult women dramatically increases the relative risk of developing a pulmonary embolism (PE). The risk of a PE in obese adolescent females taking contraceptives is currently unknown. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of body mass index (BMI) and contraceptive

Independent Sets in Some Classical Groups of Dimension Three [PDF]
Given a finite group G, an independent set S in G is a set where no element of S can be written as a word in the other elements of S. A minimax set is an independent generating set for G of largest size in G.

Reconfiguring Independent Sets on Interval Graphs [PDF]
We study reconfiguration of independent sets in interval graphs under the token sliding rule. We show that if two independent sets of size k are reconfigurable in an n-vertex interval graph, then there is a reconfiguration sequence of length (k⋅ n²).
