Fluid accretion onto a spherical black hole: relativistic description versus Bondi model [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We describe general-relativistically a spherically symmetric stationary fluid accretion onto a black hole. Relativistic effects enhance mass accretion, in comparison to the Bondi model predictions, in the case when backreaction is neglected.

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Comparative study on the fire-extinguishing effectiveness of N2 and CO2 on coal flame combustion

open access: yes矿业科学学报, 2017
In order to master thoroughly the different fire-extinguishing effects of N2 and CO2 on coal flame combustion, the self-developed experiment device of coal flame combustion was used to conduct the fire-extinguishing experiment on coal flame combustion ...

Shock dynamics of strong imploding cylindrical and spherical shock waves with non-ideal gas effects

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper, the generalized analytical solution for one dimensional adiabatic flow behind the strong imploding shock waves propagating in a non-ideal gas is obtained by using the geometrical shock dynamics theory.

Simulated X-ray galaxy clusters at the virial radius: slopes of the gas density, temperature and surface brightness profiles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Using a set of hydrodynamical simulations of 9 galaxy clusters with masses in the range 1.5 10^{14} M_sun < M_vir < 3.4 10^{15} M_sun, we have studied the density, temperature and X-ray surface brightness profiles of the intracluster medium in the ...

Composite GaN–C–Ga (“GaCN”) Layers with Tunable Refractive Index [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry C, 2018
This article describes novel composite thin films consisting of GaN, C, and Ga (termed "GaCN", as an analogue to BCN and other carbonitrides) as a prospective material for future optical applications. This is due to their tunable refractive index that depends on the carbon content.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

The Variation in Molecular Gas Depletion Time among Nearby Galaxies: What are the Main Parameter Dependencies? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We re-analyze correlations between global molecular gas depletion time (Tdep) and galaxy parameters including stellar mass, specific star formation rate (sSFR), stellar mass surface density and concentration index.
