The observable structure of persistence modules [PDF]
In persistent topology, q-tame modules appear as a natural and large class of persistence modules indexed over the real line for which a persistence diagram is definable. However, unlike persistence modules indexed over a totally ordered finite set or the natural numbers, such diagrams do not provide a complete invariant of q-tame modules.

Perturbation Theory for Plasmonic Modulation and Sensing
We develop a general perturbation theory to treat small parameter changes in dispersive plasmonic nanostructures and metamaterials. We specifically apply it to dielectric refractive index, and metallic plasma frequency modulation in metal- dielectric ...

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

Index Modulation-Aided Unsourced Random Access in the Block-Fading Channel
In this article, we propose three index modulation (IM) aided unsourced random access schemes in the block-fading multiple-antenna channel. In all the proposed schemes, the signal frame is partitioned into multiple time slots, and only part of time slots

The protonated form of butyrate, as well as other short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), is membrane permeable. In acidic extracellular environments, this can lead to intracellular accumulation of SCFAs and cytosolic acidification. This phenomenon will be particularly relevant in acidic environments such as the large intestine or tumor microenvironments ...

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

Light tunneling inhibition in array of couplers with combined longitudinal modulation of refractive index [PDF]
We consider light tunneling inhibition in periodic array of optical couplers due to the specially designed longitudinal and transverse modulation of the refractive index. We show that local out-of-phase longitudinal modulation of refractive index in channels of directional couplers in combination with the global refractive index modulation between ...
