Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Wage Indexation, Inflation Inertia, and the Cost of Disinflation [PDF]

open access: yes
A Statement of the Colombian Consitutional Court has mandated wage indexation on the basis of past inflation. A simple model with a wage price system, a real block, and an inflation targeting interest rule is calibrated to resemble price setting in the ...

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Differentiating Indexation in Dutch Pension Funds [PDF]

open access: yes
We investigate numerically how indexation of funded pensions for inflation can be differentiated across the various groups of fund participants. The pension arrangement is modelled after the Dutch situation.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Unemployment persistence, wage indexing and central bank independence [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper examines the effect of wage indexation on the optimal degree of central bank conservativeness in a dynamic economy. In particular, we find that when unemployment persists, wage indexation is inflationary as it lowers the will of the central ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...
