The application of remote sensing technology to the solution of problems in the management of resources in Indiana [PDF]

open access: yes
In an effort to bridge the gap between the research community and the user agencies, this investigation was designed to take the remote sensing technology and products of that technology to the user agencies and to assist them in the use of this ...

What Happens if Pensions Disappear? A Case Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Long before General Motors filed for bankruptcy protection, it closed all 10 of its facilities in Anderson, Indiana, which was devastating to the greater Anderson Community, yet today, more than ten thousand General Motors retirees reside around Anderson

Regional Differences in U.S. Consumer Preferences for Native Woody Shrubs With Varying Aesthetic Characteristics

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Native plants offer a variety of aesthetic (e.g., fall colour, fruit, flowers) and functional benefits (e.g., pollinator friendly, wildlife friendly, water management). How these benefits influence consumer choice and perceived value of native versus introduced plants is not well understood.

Self-similar minimizers of a branched transport functional

open access: yes, 2018
We solve here completely an irrigation problem from a Dirac mass to the Lebesgue measure. The functional we consider is a two dimensional analog of a functional previously derived in the study of branched patterns in type-I superconductors. The minimizer

Parallel Deterministic and Stochastic Global Minimization of Functions with Very Many Minima [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The optimization of three problems with high dimensionality and many local minima are investigated under five different optimization algorithms: DIRECT, simulated annealing, Spall’s SPSA algorithm, the KNITRO package, and QNSTOP, a new algorithm ...

U.S. Consumers Sometimes Prefer Seemingly Redundant Labels

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT More food products are carrying seemingly redundant labels, which are marketing claims or certifications that reiterate product attributes already conveyed. In this paper, we aim to answer two questions on redundant labels. First, do consumers view redundant labels as deceptive or informative? Second, how do redundant labels affect product and

Self‐Driving Laboratory Optimizes the Lower Critical Solution Temperature of Thermoresponsive Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A low‐cost, self‐driving laboratory is developed to democratize autonomous materials discovery. Using this "frugal twin" hardware architecture with Bayesian optimization, the platform rapidly converges to target lower critical solution temperature (LCST) values while self‐correcting from off‐target experiments, demonstrating an accessible route to data‐

A Crystalline Mono‐Coordinate Indium(I)‐Phosphaalkenyl

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The redox neutral carbometallation of a phospha‐alkyne using the dimeric indium(I) compound (InTer)2 is reported. This reaction affords a mono‐coordinate indium(I) compound that can reversibly extrude the phospha‐alkyne upon addition of a Lewis acid. Abstract The synthesis of the mono‐coordinate indium(I) compound In[C(Ad)═PTer] (Ad = 1‐adamantyl, Ter =

Machine Learning Driven Inverse Design of Broadband Acoustic Superscattering

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Multilayer acoustic superscatterers are designed using machine learning to achieve broadband superscattering and strong sound insulation. By incorporating a weighted mean absolute error into the loss function, the forward and inverse neural networks accurately map structural parameters to spectral responses.
