[25] Luminous bacteria as an oxygen indicator
1978Publisher Summary This chapter discusses luminous bacteria as oxygen indicators. The high oxygen affinity of the luminous system of the bacteria does not reside in any special speed of reaction of the luciferase system with oxygen over and above that of cytochrome oxidase; it relies specifically upon the low turnover number of the system.

Indicator bacteria and limnological parameters in fish ponds
Water Research, 1994Abstract The populations of indicator bacteria (mesophilic, coliform and fecal streptococci) together with relevant limnological parameters (temperature, oxygen, BOD and chlorophyll-α) were recorded during a 6 year study of three eutrophic ponds. Ecosystems were manipulated with fish (Cyprinus carpio) in 2-year management cycles: in spring of the ...

Dormant bacteria in lake sediments as palaeoecological indicators
Journal of Paleolimnology, 1992Lake sediments contain viable allochthonous bacteria that can be cultured and used for palaeoecological studies. To be a good palaeoindicator, a bacterium must be able to survive in sediments for long periods of time, but also be unable to reproduce in the lake bottom.

Taxonomy, Phylogeny, and Physiology of Fecal Indicator Bacteria
2014In studies of environmental quality, there are several different groups of bacteria frequently used as fecal indicators. The most widely applied approach is to use the group represented by the family Enterobacteriaceae (coliforms and fecal coliforms).

Indicators for antibiotic therapy in invasive bacteria diarrhoea.
Journal of diarrhoeal diseases research, 1995The objective of the study was to determine the clinical indications for antibiotic therapy in diarrhoeal diseases (DD) in 619 children aged 6 to 59 months who were evaluated during a clinical study of diarrhoea. The patients were seen at the outpatient clinic of the Palembang General Hospital from May 1991 through March 1992. Data concerning abdominal

[Quantitative sensitivity determination of bacteria. Indications and methods].
Schweizerische medizinische Wochenschrift, 1987The authors describe the indications for quantitative susceptibility tests and also the methods themselves (agar dilution, macrodilution, combination tests, tests for beta-lactamase production). This study forms part of a series on susceptibility methods which started with a paper on disk susceptibility testing (this journal, 1984; 114: 1079-1086).
