Decolouring bloodmeal: Consumption and potential recycling of peracetic acid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A method of deodorizing and decolouring bloodmeal using an equilibrium mixture of peracetic acid, hydrogen peroxide, acetic acid and water has been developed to improve its marketability as a source of protein for bioplastics.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Quantum probe hyperpolarisation of molecular nuclear spins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The hyperpolarisation of nuclear spins within target molecules is a critical and complex challenge in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Cardiac output monitoring

open access: yesAnnals of Cardiac Anaesthesia, 2008
Minimally invasive and non-invasive methods of estimation of cardiac output (CO) were developed to overcome the limitations of invasive nature of pulmonary artery catheterization (PAC) and direct Fick method used for the measurement of stroke volume (SV).

Characterisation and detection of dasheen mosaic potyvirus in Zantedeschia : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Horticultural Science in Plant Health at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Four potyvirus isolates believed to be dasheen mosaic potyvirus, the most frequently occurring virus to infect members of the Araceae, were obtained from Caladium, Colocasia, Xanthosoma and Zantedeschia in world-wide locations.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Surface water quality evaluation, apportionment of pollution sources and aptness testing for drinking using water quality indices and multivariate modelling in Baitarani River basin, Odisha

open access: yesHydroResearch
Baitarani River, Odisha, faces serious deterioration due to massive human intervention. It is particularly susceptible to degradation because it receives industrial and waste water emissions from surrounding organizations and municipal bodies.

Total energy expenditure in obese Kuwaiti primary school children assessed by the doubly-labelled water technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The aim of this pilot study was to assess body composition and total energy expenditure (TEE) in 35 obese 7–9 years old Kuwaiti children (18 girls and 17 boys). Total body water (TBW) and TEE were assessed by doubly-labeled water technique.
