Radioisotope Dilution Technique for Determination of Vitamin B12 in Foods

Abstract A radioisotope dilution (RID) method for the determination of vitamin B12 is presented. The method combines a standard extraction procedure (AOAC 43.108,12th ed.) with a commercially available RID assay kit. The method was evaluated on a wide range of fortified and unfortified food products.

The diagnosis of vitamin B12 deficiency in sheep: comparison of serum vitamin B12 levels measured by a microbiological and a radioisotope dilution technique.

Serum vitamin B12 from 6 sheep fed a diet containing 0.06 mg cobalt per kg dry matter (DM) was analysed by a radioisotope dilution (RID) technique. The results were compared with values obtained by a microbiological method (Lactobacillus leichmannii - ATCC 7830) specific for "true" vitamin B12.

Tissue vitamin B-12 assay by a radioisotope dilution technique

A method is described for the measurement of vitamin B-12 (B-12) in solid tissues by radioisotope dilution (RID) assay. The method is a modivication using double extraction of a serum B-12 RID assay which uses chicken serum as the B-12 binder. The method was developed and tested using human and bat liver specimens.

SummaryUsing a 51Cr‐labelled red cell dilution technique, the blood loss associated with elective lower segment Caesarean section was measured in 30 patients, half of whom had a previous history of Caesarean section. The blood loss (mean±SD) was 1290±240 ml for first Caesarean sections and 1012±380 ml for repeat operations.
