Prediction of optimal coagulant and flocculant dosage for water treatment at surface water intake [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Reagent treatment is one of the main methods of source water treatment in water supply plants. Suitable values of coagulant and flocculant doses, as a rule, are selected experimentally, and do not vary depending on seasonal changes in indicators ...

Renal tubular epithelial cells add value in the diagnosis of upper urinary tract pathology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background: Diagnosis of upper urinary tract infections (UTI) is challenging. We evaluated the analytical and diagnostic performance characteristics of renal tubular epithelial cells (RTECs) and transitional epithelial cells (TECs) on the Sysmex UF-5000 ...

Quantification of C1 esterase inhibitor in human serum by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay: Correlation with turbidimetric immunoassay

open access: yesМедицинская иммунология, 2023
C1 inhibitor of serine proteases (C1-INH) performs a regulatory function in the complement system and vascular permeability. Deficiency of C1-INH leads to various forms of angioedema, including hereditary angioedema (HAE).

Format validation of the PHQ-15 questionnaire version for the Mexican population to assess psychosomatic symptoms

open access: yesNova Scientia, 2023
Psychosomatic symptoms are physical manifestations of psychological origin that are not adequately explained by organic causes. For this reason, it is difficult to differentiate them from other conditions, so health sciences must consider their ...

Di-μ-bromido-bis-[(diethyl ether-κO)(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)magnesium] : the mesityl Grignard reagent [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The crystal structure of the title compound, [Mg2Br2(C9H11)2(C4H10O)2], features a centrosymmetric two-centre magnesium complex with half a mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The Mg atom is in a considerably distorted Br2CO coordination.

Modifications in FLAP's second cytosolic loop influence 5‐LOX interaction, inhibitor binding, and leukotriene formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

The carboxylate “gripper” of the substrate is critical for C‐4 stereo‐inversion by UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction
