Morphobiometrical characteristics of indigenous chicken ecotype populations in Rwanda

Tropical Animal Health and Production, 2020
The rational of conservation and sustainable use of indigenous chicken (IC) resources requires their morphobiometrical characterisation. This study morphobiometrically characterised the IC ecotypes in Rwanda. The morphological features and zoometric measurement data were randomly collected on 1670 mature IC of both sexes from five ecotypes of Rwanda ...

Serological Screening for MHC (B)-Polymorphism in Indigenous Chickens

Tropical Animal Health and Production, 2005
As part of a series of studies to characterize innate and specific immune responses of indigenous chicken lines, birds from Bolivia and India were screened serologically for MHC class IV (BG) polymorphism by direct haemagglutination using haplotype-specific antisera (B2, B4, B12, B13, B14, B15, B19, B21).

Indigenous Ducks are Better Reservoirs of P. multocida than Indigenous Chickens

Kenya Veterinarian, 2007
Two experiments were performed to study cross infections from chickens to ducks and vice versa. For each experiment the source birds (chickens or ducks) were infected with Pasteurella multocida strain 10322T. The infected birds were then mixed with sentinel indigenous ducks or chickens, respectively, six hours after inoculation.

Mitochondrial DNA origin of indigenous malagasy chicken.

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2009
We report the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) characterization of 77 indigenous chickens (fighting and meat birds) from Madagascar, using DNA sequences of the first hypervariable segment of the D-loop. Comparison with reference samples from the African continent and Asia revealed two mtDNA haplogroups, suggesting a dual geographic and genetic origin for the ...

Genetic Diversity of Indigenous Chickens in Cameroon

Bulletin of Animal Health and Production in Africa, 2012
Over time, the adaptation to harsh environmental conditions by the indigenous chickens resulted in a huge genetic potential that goes beyond the mere short-term objectives of sources of income, food protein, and other relevant social practices. This type of poultry is challenged yearly by many epizooties that disseminate over 80% of the national flock ...
