Nanocomposites with shape memory behavior based on a segmented polyurethane and magnetic nanostructures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Shape-memory composites based on a commercial segmented polyurethane and magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles(NPs) were prepared by a simple suspension casting method.

Resting energy expenditure in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy: accuracy of available prediction formulas and development of population-specific methods

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2023
IntroductionEnergy requirements are difficult to estimate in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Resting energy expenditure (REE), necessary to implement personalized nutritional interventions, is most commonly estimated using prediction formulae since ...

Metabolic effects of diets differing in glycaemic index depend on age and endogenous GIP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Aims/hypothesis High- vs low-glycaemic index (GI) diets unfavourably affect body fat mass and metabolic markers in rodents. Different effects of these diets could be age-dependent, as well as mediated, in part, by carbohydrate-induced stimulation of ...

Polyethylene and Polypropylene Nanocomposites Based on Polymerically - Modified Clay Containing Alkylstyrene Units [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Sodium montmorillonite was modified with a new polymeric surfactant. The high molecular weight of the surfactant appears to have led to incomplete cation exchange of the clays, but did promote nanocomposite formation with polyethylene and polypropylene ...

The effect of F on the density of haplogranite melt [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The densities and thermal expansivities of F-bearing haplogranitic glasses and liquids have been investigated using a combination of scanning calorimetry and dilatometry. F2O-1 reduces the density of haplogranitic liquids (at 750 °C) from 2.295 + 0.006 g/

Correlations between Elastic, Calorimetric, and Polar Properties of Ferroelectric PbSc0.5Ta0.5O3 (PST) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Calorimetric, elastic, and polar properties of ferrolectric lead scandium tantalate PbSc0.5Ta0.5O3 (PST) with 65% cation order have been investigated in the vicinity of the paraelectric-ferroelectric transition at Ttrans = 295K.

Lipid transport function is the main target of oral oleoylethanolamide to reduce adiposity in high-fat-fed mice[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2011
We evaluated the biological basis of reduced fat gain by oleoylethanolamide (OEA) in high-fat-fed mice and sought to determine how degradation of OEA affected its efficiency by comparing its effects to those of KDS-5104, a nonhydrolyzable lipid OEA ...

Necessidades nutricionais do doente crítico [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Objective: Given the inaccessibility of indirect calorimetry, intensive care units generally use predictive equations or recommendations that are established by international societies to determine energy expenditure.

Formation of Stable Amorphous Calcium Phosphate and Collagen Assemblies by a Versatile Spray‐Drying Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) microparticles with long‐term and thermal stability are prepared with or without collagen using a scalable one‐pot spray‐drying process. Under simulated physiological conditions, they crystallize into biomimetic bone mineral and, when combined with collagen, form extrudable, fibrillar bone‐like 3D constructs.
