Effectively exploiting indirect jumps

Software: Practice and Experience, 1999
This paper describes a general code-improving transformation that can coalesce conditional branches into an indirect jump from a table. Applying this transformation allows an optimizer to exploit indirect jumps for many other coalescing opportunities besides the translation of multiway branch statements.

Evolutionary consequences of indirect genetic effects

Trends in Ecology & Evolution, 1998
Indirect genetic effects (IGEs) are environmental influences on the phenotype of one individual that are due to the expression of genes in a different, conspecific, individual. Historically, work has focused on the influence of parents on offspring but recent advances have extended this perspective to interactions among other relatives and even ...

Brown’s Indirect Effects

2007
Abstract Counting the number of black children attending desegregated schools is only one way—and perhaps a rather poor one—of evaluating Brown’s importance. Countless scholars have asserted Brown’s broader significance, calling the decision “the most important political, social, and legal event in America’s twentieth-century history ...

Efficient and effective indirect bonding

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 1999
A new resin designed specifically for indirect bonding has been developed. Previous problems with indirect bonding systems, which were partly related to the fact that resins designed for direct bonding had to be used, have been addressed. A cohesive and complete system for fabricating bonding trays, and the indirect bonding procedure, is presented.

Indirect Allorecognition: Not Simple but Effective

Transplantation, 2008
Donor dendritic cells are potent but short-lived stimulators of early transplant rejection, and recipient antigen presenting cells presenting donor major histocompatibility complex peptides sustain immunoreactivity and contribute to chronic rejection.

Which animation effects improve indirect manipulation?

Interacting with Computers, 2002
Abstract This paper describes an experiment to explore the effectiveness of animation in improving indirect manipulation operations. Indirect manipulation operations are those initiated by command menus and buttons to perform a transformation on a graphical object or set of graphical objects.

The evolutionary consequences of indirect effects

Trends in Ecology & Evolution, 2013
Indirect effects occur when the effect of one species on another is mediated by a third species or through other links in the ecosystem. Indirect interactions are widespread in nature with effects on the properties of populations, communities, and ecosystems.

Indirect Effects on Organisms

2003
Indirect effects of HS on organisms include changes in bioconcentrations and toxicity of xenobiotics and metals, thus reducing the chemical stress an aquatic organism may be exposed to. Compared to the current low level of knowledge of the direct effects of HS on aquatic organisms, the indirect effects are very well known.

Indirect Effects of Desegregation

1986
In the years since desegregation has become national policy, little can be said about whether or not that policy has been successful. Many reasons have been cited as to why the evidence remains inconclusive. These reasons include such factors as the failure to conduct desegregation research within a theoretical framework, the frequent use of inadequate

Ecotoxicology and indirect effects

The European Commission has directed the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to revise the Terrestrial Ecotoxicology Guidance Document, which was initially established in 2002, in light of the increasing demand for conservation strategies and the evolving environmental challenges.
