Decentralized estimation: an indirect method
Proceedings of Thirtieth Southeastern Symposium on System Theory, 2002Presents an indirect method for decentralized estimation of interconnected large scale systems. The estimators are obtained in two steps: an approximate model for the desired local variables, using optimal aggregation techniques, is derived in the first step and in the second step a local filter is derived using the model obtained in the first step and

Estimation of the direct and indirect effects of vaccination
Statistics in Medicine, 1999Indirect effects play a major role in the protection afforded by a vaccination programme. In this work we define new measures of direct, indirect and total (direct + indirect) effects of a vaccination programme in terms of the protection they provide to unvaccinated and vaccinated individuals, and to the entire population.

Indirect Estimation of Microbial Biomass
1996In soils, microorganisms occur in great density and variety. Bacteria and fungi are the most abundant microorganisms, protozoans and algae occur in smaller numbers. The proportion of carbon biomass in the soil has been found to be 1–3% of the organic carbon (Sparling 1985).

This paper is concerned with the study of the asymptotic and finite sample properties of 3 Indirect Inference Estimators which can be found in the relevant bibliographic references and are called GMR1,GMR2 and GT. In particular, we show that all 3 estimators’ first order Taylor expansions converge to the same asymptotic distribution, that is they are ...

Indirect Maximum Likelihood Estimation
2016We study maximum likelihood estimators (henceforth MLE) in experiments consisting of two stages, where the first-stage sample is unknown to us, but the second-stage samples are known and depend on the first-stage sample. The setup is similar to that in parametric empirical Bayes models, and arises naturally in numerous applications.

Indirect Estimation of Hydrologic Parameters
Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1977Parameters of multiple series of monthly streamflows, which describe the expectation and covariance structure of series, can be estimated on ungaged sites by using the simple geomorphologic parameters. This allows a simulation of new hydrologic samples of multiple series at sites with no runoff records.

Indirect methods to estimate hidden population.
Revista espanola de salud publica, 2018Estimating the prevalence of the so-called “hidden populations” can be challenging, because the identification of its members is difficult due to their socially sanctionable or illegal behaviours. This article provides a critical review of the most widely used methods for estimating the size of a hard-to-reach population.

Constrained indirect inference estimation [PDF]
We develop generalised indirect inference procedures that handle equality and inequality constraints on the auxiliary model parameters. We also show that the asymptotic efficiency of such estimators can never decrease by explicitly taking into account Lagrange multipliers associated with additional equality constraints, regardless of whether the ...
