A study of asphalt aging using Indirect Tensile Strength test

Construction and Building Materials, 2015
Abstract While dynamic modulus, diametrical resilient modulus, and loss of ductility are the most common parameters to study aging, this study determines laboratory equivalence of field aging using an Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) test for its simplicity and wide usages in Asphalt Concrete (AC) performance evaluation.

Development of New Low-Cost Indirect Tensile Test Equipment for Bituminous Mixtures

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2001
Abstract In order to design pavements analytically, mechanical properties such as elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio should be known. In addition, fatigue and plasuc deformation life of bituminous mixtures have to be known. Marshall mix design, while abandoned in many developed countries, is still in use in Turkey.

Micro-tensile bond testing of resin cements to dentin and an indirect resin composite

Dental Materials, 2002
Micro-tensile bond strength (microTBS) evaluation and fractographic analysis were used to compare four resin cement systems (AC: All-Bond 2/Choice; RX: Single Bond/RelyX ARC; SB: Super-Bond C & B; and PF: Panavia F) in indirect composite/dentin adhesive joints.Flat dentin surfaces were created on extracted human third molars.

On the applicability of some indirect tests for estimation of tensile strength of anisotropic rocks

2020
The tensile strength of rocks plays a noteworthy role in their failure mechanism, and its determination can be beneficial in optimizing the design of the rock structures. Schistose rocks due to their inherent anisotropy in different foliation directions show a diverse strength at each direction.

Micromechanical Simulation of Influence Factors of Indirect Tensile Test of Asphalt Mixture

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2017
Abstract A heterogeneous asphalt mixture is regarded as a multiphase material comprised of coarse aggregates, air voids, and asphalt mastic; namely fine aggregates, fines, and asphalt binder in this study. An indirect tensile test (IDT) model of asphalt mixture with a given gradation was developed.

Investigation of the micro-cracking behavior of asphalt mixtures in the indirect tensile test

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2016
Abstract The micro-cracking behavior of asphalt mixtures in the indirect tensile test (IDT) was studied by the discrete element modeling in this paper. A user-defined discrete element model was constructed and verified by the laboratory test results. The material mechanical behavior, the micro-cracking mode, the crack initiation and propagation, and ...

Indirect Diametrical Tensile Testing with Internal Displacement Measurement and Stiffness Determination

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2009
Abstract This paper examines the indirect diametrical tensile (IDT) testing method and its suitability for determining the tensile strength and stiffness modulus properties of a lightly cementitiously stabilized granular base material that are required for the design of a pavement structure involving this material.

Poisson’s Ratio of Asphalt Concrete Mixes Using Indirect Tensile Test

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2018
Abstract Increased interest in mechanistic evaluation of flexible pavement structures has brought a demand for accurate and practical methods, models, or both to estimate the mechanical properties of asphalt concrete mixtures. One of these properties is the Poisson’s ratio (ν) of asphalt concrete mixtures, which is often assumed to have ...

Implementation of the SuperPave Indirect Tensile Test (IDT) Analysis Procedure [PDF]

open access: possible, 2010
Cracking is one of the most severe distress modes of asphalt pavements. Thus characterizing the fracture resistance properties of asphalt mixtures is the key issue for improving the performance related mixture design. The present master thesis project addresses the implementation of the theoretical framework, which is used to characterize the fracture ...

Improved Use of the Repeated Load Indirect Tensile Test

1999
Among the mechanical parameters that are used to describe the quasi-elastic properties of bituminous mixtures, special attention should be devoted to the so-called elastic stiffness which can be measured by means of the repeated load indirect tensile (RLIT) test.
