Prevalence of eating disorders in adolescent girls in Siberia

open access: yesEuropean Psychiatry, 2022

SIRS epidemics with individual heterogeneity of immunity waning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We analyse an extended SIRS epidemic model in which immunity at the individual level wanes gradually at exponential rate, but where the waning rate may differ between individuals, for instance as an effect of differences in immune systems. The model also includes vaccination schemes aimed to reach and maintain herd immunity.

Insights into PI3K/AKT signaling in B cell development and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Review explores how the phosphoinositide 3‐kinase and protein kinase B pathway shapes B cell development and drives chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a common blood cancer. It examines how signaling levels affect disease progression, addresses treatment challenges, and introduces novel experimental strategies to improve therapies and patient outcomes.

Identifying differences in the rules of interaction between individuals in moving animal groups [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Collective movement can be achieved when individuals respond to the local movements and positions of their neighbours. Some individuals may disproportionately influence group movement if they occupy particular spatial positions in the group, for example, positions at the front of the group.

Closer than they appear: A Bayesian perspective on individual-level heterogeneity in risk assessment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Risk assessment instruments are used across the criminal justice system to estimate the probability of some future behavior given covariates. The estimated probabilities are then used in making decisions at the individual level. In the past, there has been controversy about whether the probabilities derived from group-level calculations can ...

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

Individualized Multi-directional Variable Selection [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
In this paper we propose a heterogeneous modeling framework which achieves individual-wise feature selection and individualized covariates' effects subgrouping simultaneously. In contrast to conventional model selection approaches, the new approach constructs a separation penalty with multi-directional shrinkages, which facilitates individualized ...

The intracellular domain of TLR2 is capable of high‐affinity Zn binding: possible outcomes for the receptor activation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Toll‐like receptors (TLRs) are important in the innate immune system. This study explores the zinc‐binding ability of the TLR2 TIR domain (TLR2TIR). We found that TLR2TIR binds zinc with nanomolar affinity through its cysteine residues. Two of them, C673 and C713, are vital for receptor activation, indicating that zinc may play a role in initiating ...
