Electrostatic charging due to individual particle-particle collisions

Powder Technology, 2021
Abstract The charge transferred between individual particles of varying materials (aluminum, PTFE and nylon) and sizes (3.2–4.8 mm) was investigated using a particle collision apparatus. The collisions were video-recorded and analyzed via a Particle Tracking Velocimetry software to determine the particles' impact velocities and angles.

Individualism of particles in particle swarm optimization

Applied Soft Computing, 2019
Abstract The particle swarm optimization (PSO) method is an effective, nature-inspired, computational algorithm for optimization problems. However, the influence of individuals’ cultural orientations is neglected in particle swarms. Individualist and collectivist orientations have an important influence on optimization.

Visibility of individual particles inside a dense particle ensemble

Optics Letters, 1995
Prompted by our expectation that even in a dense particle suspension there is a significant probability of straight paths through the particle field that permit the imaging of individual particles, we have been able to obtain real-time distinct images of small polystyrene spheres suspended in a transparent liquid under conditions when the sum of their ...

Individual Particle Motion

1990
In this chapter, we consider motion of a single particle in a given electromagnetic field. First in Sect. 3.1 we briefly describe the basic equations. Motion of a charged particle in a static magnetic field is described in some detail in Sects. 3.2, 3. Then effects of an oscillating electric field on the charged particle motion are discussed in Sect. 3.

Lead particles in an urban atmosphere: An individual particle approach

Science of The Total Environment, 1990
In air particulate matter, sampled at a suburban site near the city of Antwerp, Belgium, more than 1500 individual Pb-containing aerosol particles with projected diameters between 0.2 and 15 μm were analyzed by automated electron probe X-ray micro analysis (EPXMA) for 26 elements and morphological features.

Transition from particle swarm optimization to individual particle optimization

2009 IEEE International Conference on Control Applications, 2009
This paper proposes a novel optimization method in order to real time implementation based on standard particle swarm optimization idea and characteristics of chaotic maps which is named as individual particle optimization (IPO). Three typical benchmark functions are used to validate the proposed algorithm performance and runtime and then compare with ...

Enhance Particle’s Exploration of Particle Swarm Optimization With Individual Particle Mutation

2019 7th International Electrical Engineering Congress (iEECON), 2019
This paper proposed the restart of slow improvement particle with Mutation of its position. This can alleviate the trapped in local optima problem of Particle swarm optimization (PSO). The main characteristic of this method is the gradually restart of particle instead of restart all particle at the same time (rerun).

Individual Particle Morphology and Acidity

Aerosol Science and Technology, 2008
The morphological characterization of particles during the Pittsburgh Air Quality Study (PAQS) suggests that particle shape and physical state depends on their acidity. The aerosol shape parameters measured by Computer-Controlled Scanning Electron Microscopy (CCSEM) are statistically different in periods when atmospheric particles are neutral and when ...

Detection of Pesticide Residues on Individual Particles

Analytical Chemistry, 2002
An aerosol time-of-flight mass spectrometer (ATOFMS) is used to analyze the size and composition of individual particles containing pesticides. Pesticide residues are found in the atmosphere as a result of spray drift, volatilization, and suspension of coated soils.

Can individual elementary particles have individual properties?

American Journal of Physics, 1978
Assuming the validity of conventional quantum theory, we may divide the laws of physics into laws of conservation and laws of change. The former, unmodified by quantum theory, are deterministic. The latter, according to quantum theory, are indeterministic for single systems, but curiously are deterministic for probability distributions in ensembles of ...
