Patterns and mechanisms of early Pliocene warmth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
About five to four million years ago, in the early Pliocene epoch, Earth had a warm, temperate climate. The gradual cooling that followed led to the establishment of modern temperature patterns, possibly in response to a decrease in atmospheric CO2 ...

Subtropical Water Masses in Halmahera Waters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Research of water masses by using conductivity temperature depth (CTD), are conducted in the eastern path of the Indonesia Throughflow (ITF) in the Halmahera, Seram and Banda seas during March-April 2007 under the Expedition of Widya Nusantara (EWIN ...

Interannual variability of Indonesian throughflow in the Flores Sea

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2019
AbstractThe main branch of Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) from Makassar Strait passes through Flores Sea. The variance of ITF transport volume was influenced by climate phenomenon such as El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO). This research was conducted to describe the relationship between the ENSO and the ITF transport variability.

Indonesian Throughflow in an eddy-permitting oceanic GCM

open access: yesChinese Science Bulletin, 2004
An eddy-permitting quasi-global oceanic GCM was driven by wind stresses from reanalysis data for the period of 1958–2001 to get the time series of the upper circulation in the Indonesian Sea. The model represents a reasonable pathway of Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) with Makassar Strait making the major passage transfer the North Pacific water southward.

Importance of Resolving Mesoscale Eddies in the Model Simulation of Ningaloo Niño

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
Satellite observational data and a regional ocean model are used to understand the evolution of Ningaloo Niño (NN) anomalies near Western Australian coast.

Indian Ocean analyses [PDF]

open access: yes
The background and goals of Indian Ocean thermal sampling are discussed from the perspective of a national project which has research goals relevant to variation of climate in Australia. The critical areas of SST variation are identified.

Oceanic Boundary Currents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Measurements of oceanic boundary currents for integral quantities such as heat and freshwater transports are very important for studying their long-term impacts on the global climate.

Enhanced Indonesian Throughflow heat transport prolongs the recharge process during triple La Niña events

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
The Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) serves as the only tropical branch of the Great Ocean Conveyer Belt, and plays an important role in Indo-Pacific Basin interactions.

Water masses stratification and circulation in the southern part of Banggai Upwelling Region in Maluku Sea [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
Banggai Waters is in the western Maluku Sea, where the secondary pathway of Indonesian Throughflow passes and seasonal coastal upwelling takes place in this region, providing a high marine productivity and potential fishing ground.

Intra-seasonal Variability of Near-bottom Current in the Halmahera Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The secondary entry portal of the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) from the Pacific to Indian Oceans is considered to be via the Halmahera Sea (HS). However, few ITF studies have been done within the passage.
