Induced anisotropy in a sand

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1977
Controlled changes of principal stress directions have been applied to dense sand samples undergoing plane strain. The new apparatus and development problems are described before results are presented for a series of tests in which a single sudden rotation of principal stress directions was applied to each sample of dense sand. The magnitudes of these

Processing‐induced anisotropy

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2001, 2001
Processing of seismic data is often performed under the assumption that the velocity distribution in the subsurface can be approximated by a macromodel composed of isotropic homogeneous layers or blocks. Despite being physically unrealistic, such models are believed to be sufficient for describing the kinematics of reflection arrivals. In this paper, we

An Orientation Anisotropy in Induced Brightness

Perception, 1989
It is shown that an orientation anisotropy exists for the magnitude of induced brightness in a cruciform stimulus consisting of a grey test patch positioned at the intersection of two inducing bars, one black and one white, oriented at right angles to each other.

Low-frequency Layer-induced Anisotropy

Proceedings, 2013
ABSTRACT It is often useful to compare velocities estimated from seismic experiments with those measured by well logs at much smaller scales and higher frequencies. In the presence of fine layering, seismic velocities and anisotropy are scale- and frequency-dependent and upscaling of well logs is necessary to allow comparison.
