Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Engineering Safety-Oriented Blasting-Induced Seismic Wave Signal Processing: An EMD Endpoint Suppression Method Based on Multi-Scale Feature

open access: yesSensors
Blasting-induced seismic waves are typically nonlinear and non-stationary signals. The EMD-Hilbert transform is commonly used for time–frequency analysis of such signals.

Neurotoxic Dorsal CA1 Lesions versus 4 VO Ischaemic Lesions: Behavioural Comparisons

open access: yesBehavioural Neurology, 1999
Anterograde amnesia, a common consequence of transient cerebral ischaemia, has been attributed to cell loss in the hippocampal CA1 subfield. However, variable, widespread damage outside hippocampal CA1 can also occur following ischaemia.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Dominating Induced Matchings in $S_{1,2,4}$-Free Graphs

open access: yes, 2017
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a finite undirected graph without loops and multiple edges. A subset $M \subseteq E$ of edges is a {\em dominating induced matching} ({\em d.i.m.}) in $G$ if every edge in $E$ is intersected by exactly one edge of $M$. In particular, this means that $M$ is an induced matching, and every edge not in $M$ shares exactly one vertex with an

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Two greedy consequences for maximum induced matchings

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 2015
We prove that, for every integer $d$ with $d\geq 3$, there is an approximation algorithm for the maximum induced matching problem restricted to $\{ C_3,C_5\}$-free $d$-regular graphs with performance ratio $0.708\bar{3}d+0.425$, which answers a question posed by Dabrowski et al. (Theor. Comput. Sci. 478 (2013) 33-40).

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

MultS-ORB: Multistage Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF

open access: yesMathematics
Feature matching is crucial in image recognition. However, blurring caused by illumination changes often leads to deviations in local appearance-based similarity, resulting in ambiguous or false matches—an enduring challenge in computer vision.
