Membrane Pores Induced by Magainin

Biochemistry, 1996
Magainin, found in the skin of Xenopus laevis, belongs to a broad class of antimicrobial peptides which kill bacteria by permeabilizing the cytoplasmic membrane but do not lyse eukaryotic cells. The 23-residue peptide has been shown to form an amphiphilic helix when associated with membranes.

Bucillamine induces membranous glomerulonephritis

American Journal of Kidney Diseases, 2002
A variety of renal histopathologic lesions, such as amyloidosis, mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis, and membranous glomerulonephritis (MGN), are associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Bucillamine (BCL), a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug, has a chemical structure and side-effect profile similar to that of d-penicillamine, which can ...

Risk factors associated with recurrence of extremity osteomyelitis treated with the induced membrane technique.

Injury, 2019
INTRODUCTION Our aim was to observe the efficacy of the induced membrane technique in the treatment of extremity osteomyelitis and to analyse the causes of infection recurrence and its risk factors.

Voltage-induced membrane movement

Nature, 2001
Thermodynamics predicts that transmembrane voltage modulates membrane tension and that this will cause movement. The magnitude and polarity of movement is governed by cell stiffness and surface potentials. Here we confirm these predictions using the atomic force microscope to dynamically follow the movement of voltage-clamped HEK293 cells in different ...

A highly efficient and energy-saving magnetically induced membrane vibration system for harvesting microalgae.

Bioresource Technology, 2019
The optimal operational parameters of a second generation magnetically induced membrane vibration (MMV) system were determined using the response surface methodology (RSM) combined with single-factor experiments.

Metacarpal bone reconstruction by a cementless induced membrane technique.

Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation, 2019
Gunshot wounds to the hand often produce complex injuries and large segmental bone defects. Bone reconstruction remains a challenge in this context. The induced membrane technique is a simple and effective procedure for reconstruction of segmental bone ...

Inducing Labor by Rupturing Membranes

Postgraduate Medicine, 1968
Rupturing the membranes usually induces labor and carries little risk. Of 1,235 patients subjected to amniotomy, 89 percent were in labor in four hours, and only 3 percent required oxytocin to start contractions. Although complications are few, physicians should not rupture the membranes simply for their own or the patient's convenience.

Evaluation of the Induced Membrane for Neurotrophic Factors

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 2022
Despite gaining popularity as a bridge for small and moderate nerve gaps, an acellular nerve allograft (ANA) lacks many of the neurotrophic characteristics of a nerve autograft. Pseudomembranes induced to form around temporary skeletal spacers are rich in growth factors. Induced membranes may have beneficial neurotrophic factors which could support ANA.
