Model System for Study of Artificially Induced Resistance to Malaria
Nature, 1969THERE is still a pressing need for a vaccination model against malarial infection1. The laboratory rodent has been vigorously studied for this purpose since the discovery of Plasmodium berghei more than 20 yr ago2. Of recent reports describing various methods for the induction of resistance to malaria3–5, none have reported good success utilizing non ...

The Ecological Concept of Costs of Induced Systemic Resistance (ISR) [PDF]
Plant defence is thought to provide benefits for the defended plants. Theoretical concepts must, therefore, explain why there is variation in defensive traits, which naively might be assumed to be present constitutively in fixed high amounts. Explanations are mainly based on the assumption of fitness costs.

Cytology of induced systemic resistance of tomato to Phytophthora infestans
Planta, 1991The infection of tomato leaves by Phytophthora infestans was followed using cytological methods. Fungal ingress and plant reactions in untreated and induced resistant plants were studied. Systemic disease resistance was induced by a local pre-infection with the same fungus.

Mechanisms in Systemic Induced Disease Resistance
1989Systemic induced disease resistance in whole plants has been observed with a number of plant pathogen systems (for a review see Kuc 1987). The best resistance effects against diseases caused by viruses, bacteria and fungi have been achieved by preinfection with the same or different microorganisms.

Cytology of induced systemic resistance of cucumber to Colletotrichum lagenarium
Planta, 1991The infection of cucumber leaves by Colletotrichum lagenarium was studied using cytological methods. Its progress in untreated plants was compared with that in plants in which systemic resistance had been induced by pre-infecting the first true leaf with the same fungus.

Molecular regulation of Systemic Induced Resistance
1995Following the report of Ross (1961) describing the induction of systemic resistance in the virus-free leaves of tobacco plants reacting hypersensitively to tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), interest in the biochemistry and molecular biology of the phenomenon has been growing.
